What's your winning condition?

Yes, win conditions are just creature damage. No, they probably won't get destroyed. There are only a few spells in standard that can kill Sphinx of the Final Word, and most decks don't play them. Even if they did, I've got 12 or 15 answers to it. The most likely way sphinx would die is a pair of 3 dmg board wipes ..... which I have 12 or 15 answers for, and both have to resolve. It's unlikely that a deck running 6-7 removal spells is even going to be able to kill my gearhulks, And I have plenty of tools available to make sure they have nothing to block with.

That's the plan anyway, I'll have to see how it plays out this weekend.

How about 1-2 Dispel for sideboard when facing control like Red/Blue? And Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet for heavy aggro?

And kalitas is good against zombies

A few Dispel is a good idea. I'm going to see how my changes play out before sinking money into kalitas though, but I can certainly see him helping if I still need it.

So if they resolve a disposes you lose?

I've been thinking that over, that a resoloved Dispossess leaves me with no win con. Granted I would have to mess up and put myself in a position where it resolves, but still, it's a potential problem. I'm considering 1-2 Rise from the Tides as well for that reason. 1 would probably be fine.

Awesome article Geo67! I was pretty much peer pressured into including Censor by someone at my local shop, but I never was crazy about it and felt it was too easy for an opponent to play around. Some things I didn't expect, like Hieroglyphic Illumination over Glimmer of Genius, they don't even mention the loss of scry 2 in the deal which allows you to dig through 4 cards, but they rely on Anticipate for that and included more card draw than me over all. It's great to get the breakdown, for this specific kind of deck, for the current meta, by some people who (apparently) have done a ton of research and play testing.

How do you feel about As Foretold? I feel like it's not super useful here just because it forces you to cast your instant spells on your turn to take advantage of it.

Yeah, you get a free spell on your turn and their turn. My use of it is still in testing, I might take it out or add another depending on how it goes. But games can easily go long when control is involved, so I see it as potentially having some nice value if you have the card draw to support it. A lot of times I don't have anything to cast off of Yahenni's Expertise anyway. I wouldn't tap out to drop it on turn 3 though or anything.

how do you stop your opponent if they play a sphinx of the final word then the next turn they throw down a torrment of hailfire ?

99% of the sphinx you'll see will be the single copy in the sideboard that most control decks have. At that point in the game, I would pop 1 of my Blighted Fens and the sphinx is history. If it became a problem, I'd find room in the sideboard for some other "target opponent sacrifices a creature" card, but it hasn't happened yet where I have been playing this deck weekly for months now. Very few sphinx have made it on the field against me, and they've never been a problem.

shagg take a look at my deck half grixis control/ artifact with x spells i went 3 and 0 at an fnm and my deck has no counter spells i have the best deck in standard till rotation and sphinx of the final word is the best card in standard right now it is a beast i run 4 3 main one side i crushed my compititon and i faced 2 control decks with a tun of counter's they had no chance
