I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid you can't do that.

Lockwert For 3 mana, I'd rather just play Electrolyze. Otherwise, Think Twice fills the slot much better. Vortex is a fun card, but not particularly useful.

Awesome deck, +1 from me.
Question: why not use the much more versatile Counterspell over the other similar, less versatile cards in the deck?
With all those instants, a few Thing in the Ice Flip might be a sweet addition.

Thing in the Ice isnt what this deck wants to be. Essentially, this deck aims to go to the late game. Thing is such a bad topdeck late game and is usually only good turn 2. Additionally, creature maps is where this deck shines. So thig doesn't improve any matchup.
Counterspell isn't modern legal.

krunchyfrogg Eternal Masters doesn't legalize cards in formats they are not part of though.

Updating the Modern Format Primer a bit. Any chance I could use this list? Bij recommended asking you if you're still active. If you're cool with me using this, could you also write up a bit about Nahiri, the Harbinger's use in Jeskai Control?

I love this deck, but after watching what Nahiri can do in UWr Midrange, I think she is the best shell for a Jeskai Control deck. It's the new "inevitable" combo for control. Emrakul T6 is pure gas.

xzzane Yeah, feel free to use the list. I'm barely active here, and haven't played enough games of Nahiri to do a write-up. It's good, but not instantly the best form of the deck. Nahiri combo is in early days still, and I'm convinced that the shells you see now are not near the power she can have. I do quite like her, but I'm waiting for the next paycheck so I can test her in paper. It's probably the best plan currently, because it gives something proactive to do.

Let me know if you ever do add a bit about Nahiri. Changed the linked list to yours as well.

what do you think of putting the resto kiki combo in? you only need to cut 4 cards

It dies too easily, and has more deckbuilding restrictions than Nahiri. Nahiri is good by herself, but Kiki is not.

in meliria match up it gives you a shot after they gain infinite life and your opponents dont expect you to play it and they tapout then you combo them also for your opponents its either kill nahiri or get comboed. also it helps race aggro decks. I see what your saying though, it does die to everything and is just a 5 mana 2/2 with haste by itself i just think it makes the deck a little bit better

I'd rather win against the majority of matchups and have a Nahiri to kill creatures and threaten the win against Melira decks than have a risky infinite combo which may not work.

Pretty good. They're very useful with Nahiri, for either fixing draws completely, or digging for a Nahiri. I much prefer them to Think Twice, even though TT works from the grave. Having 2 Anticipates makes them quite common, and with Snaps, you get a lot of digging power.

JexInfinite, how are the Cryptic Commands? I really like that card, being a perennial control player, but I'm fearing it is too slow for modern, or at least for what we are trying to do here, considering you already have the four Nahiri, the Harbinger and Supreme Verdict as four drops. Does it ever get stuck in your hand? I know a lot of folks playing similar decks have dropped the cryptics completely or just play one. Thoughts?

btreuther It rarely gets stuck in the hand, and it's still a great card. My list is slower than most and instead of running either Visions, I have 25 lands and the 2 Cryptics. It gives greater lategame power for a riskier early game. Having 7 4 drops is indeed a lot, and I would consider going down to 1 Cryptic, but I am unsure of what to run in that slot. Perhaps another Electrolyze is better. I'll test it out and see how that works.

JexInfinite: I see you put in Spell Queller, and I am liking that inclusion. It will be interesting to see how the it fares. Have you had a chance to test it? I've got a list that I'd like for you to take a look at that features that card, if you are interested.

btreuther Not had a chance to test it yet, been very busy lately. It's there purely for theoretical reasons of being a counterspell and a threat. I think it's going to end up being fine.

+1!!! #600!!! Warleader's Helix maybe for your maybebord? Silence too?
September 21, 2016 3:52 a.m.

CrazyGood-MTG9797 Warleader's Helix is a bad Lightning Helix. Silence is a do nothing card which I wouldn't play outside of a combo deck. The closest to Silence I would play (and have historically played a lot) is Shadow of Doubt. It's not good against anything at the moment but it did have it's good moments in the meta.

Dispel and Counterspell as a start to a maybeboard!?! Tormod's Crypt?

Serum Visions is bad. Ancestral Vision is in this list purely to combat control mirrors, and also to see how it works. I need to tweak my mana base if I want to utilize it fully, which is quite a difficult task.
Ancestral Vision is a trap because it's not immediately a good card, and it fits really awkwardly on the curve. One potential way to remedy this is to shave a Colonnade, and play 3-4 Spell Snare. That allows you to tap for a T2 suspend, and have Snare up. Spell Pierce is also really good here, but it doesn't deal with creatures, hence my preference of Snare. For Vision to be good, you need to make it good. This means running lots of high quality cards, and running the right numbers of these cards.
