I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid you can't do that.

Cloudshift w/ your Spell Queller may come in handy-just trying to help out, because this deck is freakin awsome to me!!!

CrazyGood-MTG9797 - Counterspell is not modern legal but the other ones are.

Cloudshift sounds kinda neat. I know someone at my locals uses Spell Queller I'll mention it to that guy.

CrazyGood-MTG9797 Render Silent is too expensive for what it does. Counterspells are best at 2 mana. Tormod's Crypt is a great card, but I prefer RIP for the permanence and how hard it is to remove. If need be, Nahiri can remove it.

Spell Queller is alright in UW builds with Restos or in Bant with Company, but I find it's better to run card advantage and keep expensive creatures to a minimum.

I gotcha! If you're not afraid to loss life- seeing how you are using Lightning Helix- Dismember as a possible Maybeboard!?! Thoughts?

What cards (besides 'mrakul) do you prefer to discard to Nahiri, The Harbringer's +1? Which cards are better to keep than discard?

loozar33

That would depend intirely on your situation.

Mana Leak and lands often end up as discard fodder late-game, but for the first long while, you just have to think forward and find the best way to interact with your opponents strategy and the current board-state.

loozar33 Generally I want to discard land to get cards that do things. It gets to a point where fetches are useless. Otherwise, you want to toss the least useful card. Sometimes that's a Spell Snare, or a Remand. Looting is very useful in certain matchups where cards do nothing.

For keeping, it's usually going to be a sweeper, but it's too situational to have rules for it. You need to use your intuition to figure it out.

Deflecting Palm!?! -as a maybe? It is great against infect!! ---- I'm also surprized that you aren't playing Dual Casting, you would get double duty out of all (instants and sourcerys)!! /to go with dual casting, try Greater Auramancy

I'd add Silence

Silence is a 0 for 1.

I don't understand what you mean by that

March 9, 2017 12:42 p.m.

Kjartan says... #19

Deathbend When you cast Silence, you trade a card, and your opponent doesn't.

When you cast, let's say Mana Leak, you trade a card, and your opponent does too (if he can't pay for it that is.)

So Mana Leak is a 1 for 1, whilst Silence is a 0 for 1's.

That is not to say Silence is a bad card. It's quite good in combo decks where its effect can be game winning the turn you're going off.

But in a control deck, you generally want everything you do to be at least a 1 for 1, with some of your cards being 2+ for 1's.

Thoughts on Torrential Gearhulk? I have a similar decklist and I kind of want to make use of it as a single copy because it would be nuts to flashback a Cryptic Command with its ability and also get a 5/6 beater out of it.

Deathbend says... #22

calvinwarning I say snapcaster over torrential just sheerly because of mana cost flashing back cryptic with snapcaster costs the same as just playing the gear hulk.

JexInfinite says... #23

calvinwarning Gearhulk is good when you run 4 Cryptics. I don't like to run above 3 because they're dead draws early game. 2 might not be the correct number of Cryptics, but Venser is a very versatile and powerful card and Cryptic competes with that. Having a 2/2 body Remand that gets around Dispels and Negates is very valuable. My other issue with Gearhulk is that it's very expensive. Cards like Secure the Wastes and Sphinx's Rev are still playable on early turns.

Keeping the cost of my spells lower means I have more opportunities to do powerful things per turn. I may end up buying another Cryptic if 2 isn't enough, but I'm happy with how it goes.

E GAWD! "Negate: Like Dispel, this is here to deal with the frustrating spells that matter, like Hive Mind and Splinter Twin."

When did twin get unbanned?!
Anyhow... Why not triple command? Is it because you never want >1 along with snapcaster flashing them back?
