Jeskai Thing in the Ice

Modern Counterspell Horror RGWU Scry

Maybeboard

Jeskai control deck using Myth Realized + Thing in the Ice . 80% Draw Go. In the beginning of the game, try to land a Thing in the Ice or a Myth Realized, then focus on protecting it while you cast spells. As the game goes long, use Torrential Gearhulks + Counterspell to replay countermagic, and use Thing in the Ice + Torrential Gearhulk to replay the gearhulks.

Turn 1 you may want to Serum Visions or Opt. If you don't have two cantrips but you do have a Thing in the Ice or Myth Realized, it is probably more correct to play the Thing or the Myth before cantripping down.

Leave mana up for counter magic / direct damage. Play Rowan or Baral when you have 4 lands, Primal Amulet when you have 5, and Will or Narset when you have 6 lands. Counterspell things with ETB abilities, direct damage early creatures, Path to Exile the big guys that are otherwise difficult to play around. If there's something huge that you can't Path, you can always try to flip a Thing in the Ice then counterspell it. If you leave mana up and the opponent doesn't do anything you can interact with, pump Myth Realized during their End Step. If you end up flipping Primal Amulet to make a Primal Wellspring, try to copy counterspells against blue control decks (just double counterspell the target on the stack) or double up on draw spells / direct damage spells with it.

Made by my 9 year old son. We don't yet have all the cards in the main board, so the maybeboard is a combo of the cards we are running while we get the "ideal" cards and cards for potential sideboard in the future.

The lands definitely still need tuning; needs more RW and UW and less RU... I typically play RU in Standard so those are the lands I've picked up over the years, we just jammed all the double mana lands that potentially come into play untapped that I owned into this deck.

Sideboard strategy: If they don't run artifacts, take out Prismari Command for 1 direct damage, 1 counterspell, and 1 draw If they don't run any must answer non-creature spells, take out the two negate
