MOD GOBS is a Modern Goblins deck. This general build has proved to be highly competitive in my local Modern metagame. This current build has not been tested, as, prior to Magic Origins, I had been running the very weak Raging Goblin and Goblin Grenade in place of the returning Goblin Piledriver and newly debuted Goblin Glory Seeker.

NOTE: Some of the discussion has led to changes in the deck.

Using previous builds, I have wound up in first place in local tournaments about half of the time I have played it, along with a second-place finish. The build is pure aggro, designed to smash my opponent coming straight out of the gate and to count to twenty as fast as possible.

Some may suggest splashing green for inclusion of Atarka's Command . I have tried this. What happens is that it marginally strengthens the deck against matchups where the additional power is not needed, but the need to include Stomping Ground and to take 2 damage when Stomping Ground comes into play weakens the deck just enough for it to just barely lose to Modern Burn, which is routinely present in my metagame. That cost me a second-place finish against a deck I had previously beaten without including Stomping Ground. My opponent had five life and brought me down to 1 life. I had a Goblin on the battlefield and Goblin Grenade in my hand. My opponent then played Eidolon of the Great Revel. I lost the game and, consequently, the match when I could have won had I not taken the 2 damage from the Stomping Ground which had been in my opening hand.

Of the sixteen lands, nine of them are fetchlands solely for the purpose of thinning the deck in order to draw fuel. Also included are 4x Gitaxian Probe and 4x Manamorphose purely for the purpose of card draw. Gitaxian Probe gets sided out against other aggro/burn matchups.

The earlier build did well against Splinter Twin, Robots, Burn, Abzan/Junk, and 8-Rack. It fares VERY poorly against Bogles and decisively lost the one match I have played it against Abzan Control.
