This Mirrorworks deck is probably the most powerful and fun 60 card deck that I've built to date. The deck is built around a core set of 48 cards plus 12 one-copy-of singleton cards. Any of the cards in the deck that you see with under the Singleton category is swappable with any of the cards on the maybeboard. It runs off of the core deck as it's engine and uses the 1x cards as a way to customize the deck to whichever playstyle you choose.
After glancing things over, I strongly recommend playtesting the deck a few times. The amount of combos and synergy is high, so there's a good chance you will miss a few potential plays.
Core cards:
Mana Base (Urza "Tron" + Locus Lands) - The Locus lands are better for late game, but an early set of Urza lands can get you 7 mana on turn three. I either rush one or the other depending on which lands I get in my starting hand.
4x
Expedition Map
- These are the reason why I only play 20 lands. These are so amazing since they allow you to complete your Urza land or give you more Cloudposts. It can also get you a Glimmerpost if you need the extra health boost.
1x
Dreamstone Hedron
- This is a very powerful card that easily can ramp you to 13+ mana on turn 3 or 4 if you can get Urza lands early enough. Combos with Mirrorworks, Clock of Omens, and Rings of Brighthearth (see combo section). Alternatively, you can run
Hedron Archive
in the deck instead. It's a less powerful, but cheaper alternative which makes the deck less reliant on the urzatron/locus lands.
4x
Tumble Magnet
- This card is perfect in the deck since it's the best early game defensive card the deck has to offer. Other than the lifegain given by Elixir of Immortality and Glimmerpost, this is the only early game defense.
4x
Kuldotha Forgemaster
- (see combo section).
3x
Mirrorworks
- Even though the deck is built around Mirrorworks, having four in the deck is too much. This card combos with itself. If you play a Mirrorworks after one is on the battlefield, you can pay 2 mana and get a copy and you'll have 3 Mirrorworks. Then, with every artifact played after, you would be able to pay 6 and get three copies of it.
3x
Spine of Ish Sah
- One of the main win conditions of the deck. Not only does it offer an answer to anything barring indestructible, but it can be easily paid for with the mana base. (see combo section).
2x
Clock of Omens
- This card is just too valuable to not be put as part of the core. Combos with nearly everything: Dreamstone Hedron, Kuldotha Forgemaster, Tumble Magnet, Trading Post, and Elixir of Immortality (see combo section).
2x
Trading Post
- One of the few cards that allow me to get cards back from my graveyard. The deck is able to take advantage of the bottom 3 abilities and makes use of the lifegain every so often. Combos well with Myr Turbine (see combo section).
2x
Elixir of Immortality
- Early game defensive card that doubles up as a shuffler to get artifacts for Kuldotha Forgemaster. Also great as an anti-mill card (see combo section).
Substitution (1x) cards:
I won't go over all of them, but here are the ones worthy of noting:
Contagion Engine
- Anti Token defensive card. I highly recommend playing Contagion Engine as it not only puts -1/-1 counters on the creatures, but you can copy it with Mirrorworks and proliferate your troubles away. One of the few cards that can deal with indestructible creatures in the deck.
Darksteel Forge
- Not much to say about this except you can get two out which makes this extremely potent.
Doubling Cube
- Great with Mirrorworks. Comboing with Clock of Omens allows you to gain obscene amounts of mana.
Myr Battlesphere
- When copied with Mirrorworks, you get a total of 10 creatures. Allows you to kill people with the creatures or sacrifice to Kuldotha Forgemaster and/or untap stuff with Clock of Omens. Part of a few infinite combos.
Myr Turbine
- Insane synergy with both Trading Post (counts as both artifacts and creatures) and Clock of Omens. This is one of the few cards that I considered running 2x in the deck. It synergizes so well with everything. Gives more blockers for defense, gives creatures to sac to Kuldotha Forgemaster, and can tutor for Myr Battlesphere. And, of course, can be copied with Mirrorworks for double the fun.
Possessed Portal
- Win condition. With enough Myr Turbines and/or Spine of Ish Sahs, it can win you the game by itself if your opponent doesn't have an answer (see combos below).
Rings of Brighthearth
- Excellent synergy with the activated abilities in the deck (see combos below).
Phyrexian Metamorph
- This card opens up so many more possibilities in the deck. Not only are you able to copy your own artifacts, but you can copy any creature or artifact your opponent's control - then get a copy of it with Mirrorworks!
Staff of Nin
- Great card for drawing. This is an alternate win condition where you can ping your opponents to death if you have a Clock of Omens and a ton of artifact tokens. Also helps clear creatures and planeswalkers.
Mindslaver
- Sometimes you can't get through to your opponent because they have something with hexproof or indestructible. This allows you to destroy their stuff with their own stuff. Also can be comboed into stealing all of their turns.
Tormod's Crypt
/
Nihil Spellbomb
- Great cards to exile opponent's graveyards. One thing to note about these is that they don't exile your own graveyard which is important. So for graveyard hate, I recommend these two as they're cheap to play and copy with Mirrorworks.
Brittle Effigy
/
Duplicant
- The deck's biggest weakness is indestructible permanents. These are nice additions to the sideboard that covers the weakness a bit.
Staff of Domination
- If you want to make your deck not-so-nice, then put this in it. It introduces a lot more infinite combos that I won't go into (Clock of Omens + 2 of these + Dreamstone Hedron or Doubling Cube).
Combos with
Mirrorworks
:
Kuldotha Forgemaster
- This is the bread and butter combo in the deck. If Mirrorworks is the power multiplier, then Kuldotha Forgemaster would be the flexibility. This guy allows you to fetch any artifact in the deck and get a copy of it for 2 mana. Ideally, you want to play the Forgemaster right after Mirrorworks so you can get an extra copy (double the threat). It has the 5 toughness advantage as well which helps significantly.
Spine of Ish Sah
- This is the origional win condition of the deck. With Mirrorworks allows you to destroy two permanents for a reletively cheap price of 9 (with Urza tron, Locus, and Dreamstone Hedron, it's not difficult). In addition, you're able to use the (first) Spine to destroy a permanent, then use the second (the copy) to destroy the first Spine and return it to your hand. This is especially effective if you're able to amass a lot of mana.
Dreamstone Hedron
- With Mirrorworks on the battlefield, you can get a copy of Dreamstone Hedron for 2 mana... but what most people (myself included) don't realize at first glance is that you can pay the 2 mana with the Dreamstone Hedron you just played! You essentially get a Dreamstone Hedron for free with Mirrorworks on the battlefield. You will have a newly untapped Hedron plus one mana floating - essentially refunding 4 out of the 6 mana you paid! This is one of the main reasons Dreamstone Hedron is in the core of the deck.
Hedron Archive
- Similar to Dreamstone Hedron. You can play this and copy it with Mirrorworks immediately since this taps for 2. If you prefer these in the deck over Dreamstone Hedron, make sure to keep at least one Dreamstone Hedron in there as well. When copied with Mirrorworks it gives more mana back and lets you draw one more card when sacced.
Card combos:
Kuldotha Forgemaster + Rings of Brighthearth
- For just 2 mana more, you can get an additional artifact straight to the battlefield. Additionally, if Mirrorworks is on the battlefield, your opponents are going to have a bad day.
Dreamstone Hedron + Rings of Brighthearth
- This combo gives insane card advantage. Why use
Tower of Fortunes
to draw 4 cards for 8 mana when you can draw 6 cards for 5 mana? With Mirrorworks, you should have extra Dreamstone Hedrons lying around for the easy power boost.
Possessed Portal + Spine of Ish Sah
- In a 1v1 game, this will most likely instantly win you the game. Just keep sacrificing Spine of Ish Sah to Possessed Portal and recasting it. They will essentially be losing 3 permanents for every 1 you lose. With Mirrorworks, you won't lose anything and they will be losing 4 permanents a turn.
Clock of Omens + Elixir of Immortality
- Not many people realize this, but Elixir of Immortality doesn't require it to sacrifice in its cost. Thus, you can activate its ability, untap it with Clock of Omens while it's on the stack, and activate it again. This allows for some unexpected boosts of lifegain.
Myr Turbine + Trading Post
- The myrs produced by Myr Turbine count as both artifacts and creatures for Trading Post. This is probably one of the strongest two card combos in the deck besides the Kuldotha Forgemaster + Mirrorworks combo. It either nets you a card each turn or an artifact from your graveyard. Combo gets crazy with Clock of Omens.
Mirrorworks
+
Lodestone Golem
+
Phyrexian Metamorph
- An expansion to the Mirrorworks/Lodestone Golem combo. If you follow up with a Phyrexian Metamorph it usually seals the game. Not only do nonartfact spells cost 4 more, but you have 20 power on the board in the form of four 5/3 creatures. Excellent finisher against a small board.
Platinum Angel + Soul Conduit
+ Negative Life Total - Able to kill someone instantly if you swap while you have a negative life total.
Mirrorworks
+
Spine of Ish Sah
+
Clock of Omens
+
Doubling Cube
= Infinite mana and Infinite copies of Spine of Ish Sah:
-
Cast Spine of Ish Sah targeting a permanent.
-
Copy it with Mirrorworks. Have copy target origional Spine of Ish Sah.
-
In response, tap both Spine of Ish Sah's to Clock of Omens to untap Doubling Cube.
-
Double your mana pool. The origional Spine of Ish Sah card is destroyed and returns to your hand. An opponent's permanent is destroyed. As long as you have enough mana in your mana pool, you will net mana and be able to do this infinitely. If you just want infinite mana, you can have both Spine of Ish Sah's target the origional.
Standard win condition:
Mirrorworks
+
Kuldotha Forgemaster
-> 2x
Spine of Ish Sah
:
This is the origional win condition. With Mirrorworks, Kuldotha Forgemaster, and 3 artifacts, you can get a Spine of Ish Sah and copy it to destroy two permanents. Then, you're able to sacrifice both Spine of Ish Sah's back into the Forgemaster and tutor for another Spine of Ish Sah + copy. The Spine of Ish Sah you sacrificed goes back to your hand.
Alternatively, instead of searching for another Spine of Ish Sah, you can search for a
Possessed Portal
for the Spine/Portal lock (mentioned above under combos).
Infinite combos:
The deck has many infinite combos. There are quite a couple 4+ card combos that can combo the deck out completely (infinite of every artifact, infinite mana, infinite life, infinite damage, infinite permanent destruction). Since these combos are complicated, messy, and require a solid understanding of the stack, I won't explain them here. But an infinite deck combo goes something like this:
Mirrorworks
+
Kuldotha Forgemaster
+
Clock of Omens
+
Myr Battlesphere
copied = 10 creatures to untap Forgemaster. Sac Battlesphere to Forgemaster to get
Elixir of Immortality
to shuffle the Battlesphere back into your library to search for it again. Somewhere along the lines get a
Doubling Cube
for infinite mana by tapping your myrs.
As you can see, it involves many cards and multiple steps. How you combo out also depends on the amount of mana and number of
Dreamstone Hedron
you have. I hope you have fun searching for all the combo variations.
Conclusion:
Thank you for taking the time to explore what my deck has to offer. Hopefully you'll find this to be the kind of deck you love to play. The vast array of options and playstyles this deck brings is what makes me love it the most.
