Update 1/27/16: With the drop of Oath of the Gatewatch, I wanted to revamp my existing colorless Eldrazi Tron with some new cards. I took a 'mile wide, inch deep' approach and used a little bit of everything that I was interested in.

BfZ made me take a hard look at my existing TRON deck and think about how I could incorporate some of the new cards. The result is this deck which has gone 3-1 in each Modern tourney I've entered (2 so far). I've been able to beat:

  • Burn
  • Merfolk
  • Grixis Twin
  • U/R Twin
  • R/G TRON
  • Soul Sisters
  • Jund

Not to say it's the end-all be-all of TRON decks. It does stumble on occasion, and really doesn't like repeatable land destruction (who does?)

What makes this take on TRON different is its ability to both control the board, have a board presence throughout the game, and alternative sources of large mana streams. As opposed to getting hung up until you get TRON online or play sufficient lands to cast a spell.

The Eldrazi lands (Temple & Eye) are a key part of this. There have been a couple of games where I've had a turn 3 Conduit of Ruin without using Urza lands (combination of Eldrazi Temple and Eye of Ugin.

Shell:

Everything starts with the basic TRON package of Urza Lands, Chromatic Sphere, Chromatic Star, and Expedition Map. I may remove the Chromatic Sphere for Conjurer's Bauble . Mostly to get a land back into my library that may have been destroyed, or to 'counter' a Surgical Extraction on one of my tron lands.

Mirrorpool: Has been pretty decent when it landed. I won a game by playing a Sundering Titan and then creating a token of it on the following turn.

Sanctum of Ugin: Great tutor effect for the deck as it is not really restricted like Eye or Conduit.

Creatures

Eldrazi Mimic: Great for an early board presence. Takes full advantage of the Eldrazi lands. I've had a number of games where I would play either Eye of Ugin or Eldrazi Temple on turn 1, drop the mimic, and then play a Temple/Eye on Turn 2 with a Thought-Know Seer.

Endbringer : Currently an experiment and I"ve boarded it out in almost every game so far. I'll probably take it out completely and bring in a Wurmcoil from the board.

Conduit of Ruin : Nice tutor for any colorless creature (which is all of them in this deck). Works really well with the Eye of Ugin and Eldrazi Temple.

Though-knot Seer : Has been a strong performer in almost every game I've played. It and the Mimic won be a game against R/G Tron.

Reality Smasher: I'm only planning on running 2 out of fear of people starting to play Loxodon Smiter and/or Wilt-Leaf Liege should this card really take off in Modern :)

Sundering Titan : As I'm not running any basics, this seems like a great fit. Really fun when you cast it with Cavern of Souls and decimate your opponents lands.

Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger: Has really outperformed the 'old' Ulamog (and for 1 mana cheaper). Taking out two permanents is fantastic.

Void Winnower: All around great card when it hits. Screws up the twin combo, takes care of Remand, and those pesky 2 mana removal spells, etc.

Kozilek, the Great Distortion: First time running this, I was only able to get it into play once, and it worked exactly as expected. Refilling my hand with gas and allowing me to counter a spell. Had the added benefit of allowing me to Titan's Presence my opponent's Ulamog.

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn: It's Emrakul, 'nuff said

Spells

Titan's Presence: This card has been a huge boost to my TRON deck. As it doesn't need an Eldrazi, just a colorless creature, it gives TRON some extra breathing room by taking out my opponents key combo creature. Or just slowing down the life loss. I've blown out Twin decks more than a few times with this. In the 'mirror' I've used it against my opponent's Emrakul, revealing my own Emrakul (with Torpor Orb in play) :)

Karn Liberated: Only one of these as it's not as critical to get a Karn into play on turn 3.

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon : So versatile in a TRON deck. Bolt or Sweep, it can do it all.

Oblivion Stone: The other panic button. Though it can catch my own non-land permanents if I haven't put a counter on them.

Updates Add

Last night I was able to take my re-imagined Eldrazi TRON to my local LGS and compete in their Modern tournament. There were 10 players participating in a very competitive metagame.

Match 1 vs. B/R TRON (2-0):

Game 1 Win

He was running a well known B/R eldrazi netdeck that relied on hand disruption, plus eldrazi processing to ramp up and cast Ulamog. Unfortunately, he had some mana base difficulties early on, but was able to fire off a couple of Blight Herders. His hand disruption was somewhat ineffectual as I rarely had 'bad' cards in my hand that he could leave me with.

Ultimately, my deck was a bit more cooperative and my threats were simply much nastier than his. A timely Oblivion Stone wiped the board and I crashed in with the Eldrazi for the win. Thought-Knot Seer was especially effective all night as I would often get it on Turn 2/3 and slow them down enough for my deck to kick in and overwhelm them. MVP: Oblivion Ring, Thought-Knot Seer

Game 2 Win

Simply put, he got completely mana screwed after a mull to 4. I quickly got TRON and landed a Sundering Titan. We went on for a few more turns, but the writing was on the wall at that point. Once again landing a Thought-Knot Seer early on went a long way to preventing any sort of recovery from a mull to 4.

Match 2 vs. R/G Tron

I've played against this opponent a number of times and he's really good. I took game 1 by landing a Turn 1 Eldrazi Mimic followed up with a turn 2 Thought-Knot Seer. The seer allowed me to take his ramp piece which kept him off of TRON long enough for me to smash him down to 2 life. The turn I played a Reality Smasher and that ended the game.

Game 2 I lost in typical TRON fashion. He was able to keep me off my important lands with a series of Ghost Quarters. All the while I was unable to prevent him from achieving TRON and dropping an Ulamog. I was able remove the Ulamog with a Titan's Presense revealing Kozilek, the Great Distortion, but his follow up was to drop a Conduit of Ruin and a Wurmcoil Engine. Without another piece of removal, or enough mana for O-Stone I conceded.

Game 3 worked out well for me as I was able to use Thought-Knot Seer to disrupt his hand and beat him down with the same combination as Game 1 (Eldrazi Mimic + Thought-Knot). Karn eventually showed up to close it out and Ulamog was the final nail in the coffin. I was a bit lucky as my opponent was desperately cycling Spheres and Stars trying to get his last tron piece before I killed him. I think he went through 6 combined artifacts without getting the land, a map, or sylvan scrying.

Match 3 vs. Brew.deck 2-0

My opponent brought an interesting brew to the tourney and as he was 2-0 at this point I was really curious. Basically his deck was comprised of a bunch of creature ETB effects and he would then flicker (usually via Cloudshift to get extra value. Creatures like Fiend Hunter, Blade Splicer, Kitchen Finks In practice it would work really well to keep the board cleared while he beat you down.

This match came down to 2 cards for me: Oblivion Stone and Torpor Orb. Game 1 I had two back to back O-Stones that blew up all his ETB shenanigans and left him with 1 card in hand. From there I was able to land 2 mimics and on the following turn I played Reality Smasher hitting him for 15.

Game 2 I kept a hand that had Torpor Orb and 2 Eldrazi Temples. I didn't really care what else was in my hand because if he didn't have an answer for Torpor his deck wouldn't really function. Sure enough he didn't have a way to get rid of Torpor. He did come close to winning when played 2 Damnable Pacts and hit with a Flicker Wisp bringing me to 8 life. Luckily I had an O-Stone in hand and blew up the board on the following turn. This got rid of my Torpor Orb, but better that than dying :). I followed that up with a Sundering Titan and then used Mirrorpool to copy it and take out the rest of his land.

Match 4 vs. B/G Eldrazi (Intentional Draw)

As we were the only 3-0 players in the tourney we agreed to draw and then played the match out for fun. I ended up losing the match 1-2.

Overall, I'm really excited with this new take on Eldrazi TRON. I was debating dipping into another colour, but with the influx of new cards from Oath, I'm going to stick with colorless for a while.
