How about Whip of Erebos so you can gain doble life when Gray Merchant of Asphodel enters the field.

I like nighthawk and all, but there's this 2/1 guy for 2 black, and landfall-return him to the field, and if your opponent has 10 or less life it gets haste. I think it's pretty great.

I would use it over the Night hawk. Love nighthawk and all, but I dont think he's good enough for a lot of competitive use

Love this deck!!! Since your devotion is running high you could chuck in a couple Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx but other than that I can't think of much.

Hey Kjartan mind telling me what should come out to fit those six different cards in?

Personally, I would remove the desecration demons, a couple of the kill spells, and a swamp. I would add in nykthos because with the enchantments, you're always going to have stuff to play, and you NEED the mana to cast it. it'd make playing the higher stuff like obliterater and merchants easier, while still maintaining an aggressive presence. It also couldn't hurt to have a few one drops, nothing comes to mind though personally other then Rakdos Cacklers (i just love them) and Grave crawlers.

Lonewolf :), I have played this deck a lot, like very, very much.
And after having played sooo many different cards in the deck I can say that it sucks ass against every single, even slightly agressive build there is, the problem being, the high mana curve, creatures being unable to block or, and entering the battlefield tapped, however, that can be solved by adding removal, which you of cause have done, but that just spawns another problem, without a massive amount of devotion, its then going to underperform, therfore, you need removal that also adds devotion, like Gatekeeper of Malakir and Liliana of the Veil, they slow down your opponent, and makes Gray Merchant of Asphodel a better win con.
The worst card in your deck, - (Other than Desecration Demon of cause, but I Assume you are just playing for fun, or for lack of better cards) - is oddly enough, either Geralf's Messenger, or Phyrexian Arena, which both slows down your deck emensly, and costs you a turn to get to function, not than you shouldn't play them, they should just not be 4-ofs.
If I was you.
Remove 2 of each of them.thats 4 cards down, then take out 2 Hero's Downfall and of cause the 2 demonswhich makes space for 8 new cards, pick out a single Go for the Throat and you should be good to go.
9 new cards to add:
4x Gatekeeper of Malakir + 2x Liliana of the Veil and then I'd actually change my suggestion and say add 3 Vampire Nighthawk. since it realy helps bthe slow paste of the deck way more than Geralf's Messenger ever will.

I cant add the liliana's due to the $90 dollar price tag. Sorry but i'm pressed as it is. However i will test out the other suggestions. Which i can see where you are coming from. i had the Nighthawks in but they were replaced by bloodghasts. You msut also understand that im am very new to modern i havent even gone to tournament so this was built without actual experience. Playing whith my friends which is casual but with almost modern level decks i've found that i usually get enough devotion Merchant isn't really my win con just a stabilizer, the Obliterators usually do the kncokout blows. i will however play with it and we can see where it is then.

Sure dude, it takes a lot of playtesting to get anywhere in a new magic inviroment, here's my version if you want to see how I play the deck.
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mono-black-devotion-666/
I've playtested it plenty of hundred times, but it's still not quite there, it is however at a state where Inthink Incan at least call it samewhat competitive. I should definately update the sideboard though, but I have a price-Gimmick i've been trying to pay heed to.

I think geralf's Messenger Earns his keep. With my total 16 cards of removal i think i can hold off. If i find i cant hack it in terms of defense then i'll add 4 nighthawks but until then i think i'll keep it. I try to run this deck a little aggro with the removal clearing way for the creatures. Gray merchant is't the main finisher just a stabilizer and a way to bring the opponent down to where i can finish them off that combat. Not to m ake his involvement in mono black devotion any less of course he made the deck and the deck is around him.

Someone I know has a deck very similar to this, except it is absolutely broken. I'll try to get the decklist.

I could also see you dropping a swamp to main deck a single whip. It doesnt combo well with the smaller creatures, but it gives them lifelink, and an obliterater/Graymerchant being whipped back is just too crazy, and with the nykthos's and such, I think you'll be fine with 22 lands.

hmm yah know i've thought about it. I might playtest a few runs see if i can handle 22 lands see how it works.

I need options other than him. I forgot to put this up but it's a budget issue that i can't put him in. Otherwise i would have 4 of him.
