Jamesfurrow, you should look up the jund page and try to ask if you can get in. there are tons of helpful people that can guide you better than me. we also did the math once, and there is almost 70 years worth of junding combined within the active members.

I've considered the 3/3 split of discard, but I'm afraid it might be too painful. What's your experience?

phaze08, as you can see above, I run the 3/3 split on discard. I have been doing that for a little over a year now. When the meta was more aggro/tron centric a while back, I ran a 4/3 (IoK/seize) split. Later I went with a 3/4 split and to a 4/4. It really depends on whats going on.

But for right now, I am happy with the 3/3. Because when you add 4 lilies and 2 KoCo's, you essentially have 11 discard spells. which is a brutal number.

Great analysis. I've been thinking of doing the 3/3 split because half the time I run a 3rd thoughtseize in the side anyway.

I just wasn't sure if the life loss would prove to be too much or not.

phaze08, i would not consider the life loss an issue. in the matches that it matters, you want to take out all copies anyways. for me, i would take out 2 bob and 3 TS.

Hey man - what matches do you bring Shadow of Doubt in for? Also, have you tried Bitterblossom anywhere in the 75?

I have personally never been a fan of BB.

Right now, Shadow of Doubt is just being tested, to combat the RG Valakut deck and maybe the mirror and TRON. So far, its okay. It works, but its literally only good to use once, before people get wise that You "got em".

Cast it, in response to Scapeshift. yeah, it can be gnarly.

Great write up and nice foils :)

Why is the matchup against R/G Valakut so poor but the matchup against R/G Scapeshift seemingly fair (based on your match against it)? I don't really know the difference between the two lists, but even if you don't have counters for Primetime it seems like discard would usually work since the deck doesn't run much draw.

Obviously a lot of removal ends up dead in hand but the discard and Goyf beats seem like they should work as usual? Just want to have a better understanding of matchups!

abby315, well. It seems that RG Valakut and RG Scapeshift are two different decks with two completely different ways to get to the same ending.

The RG Scapeshift deck is easier to beat because it only has one option. and because of that, the discard is your best friend.

The RG Valakut deck is harder because there are a couple ways to get to the endgame, it looks fundamentally the same when you see the opening hand. And if you snatch scapeshift with slaughter games, its not game over. Instead, they can top deck a Prime time, or search for one later. There is also a weird thing with Through the Breach for Emrakul. SO there are a few ways to get clobbered by the deck. The best way I have noticed to have an edge against this is to target dual lands with fulminators and other land destruction... and to take away prime time with slaughter games.

Thanks for the advice!

Is your list here current? I don't see fulminators in your line up. Your deck is a great resource man. Thanks for all of the hard work.

scrotality, at the moment, my list testing different cards. The fulminators would be where the Shadow of Doubt would be.

Thanks for the kind words, man. I try to keep most of my card selections current for some friends to see so they can tell me why I am crazy for playing/not playing something. recently, I did notice that some folks on here have been watching my list closely. thanks again.

Nice update man. I played my jund build last night and got wrecked, but I think a lot of it was poor sideboarding and decision making lol. Glad to see that Shadow of Doubt is wrecking things. Definitely gonna try it!

hey dude just wanted to let ya know that i tried 2x Blood Moon in the sideboard of my jund deck the last time i played modern. its moderately difficult to set yourself up to not get screwed by it, but i totally got the drop on an rg scapeshift player round 2 - they couldn't do anything and i beat them down with a fulminator and goyf lol. round i got too, largely in part (i think) to them fetching less efficient lands in case i played blood moon again.

i don't know if that would be helpful info at all but that looked like a matchup you were trying to find a new approach to.

scrotality, thanks. I will keep that in mind. For me, I am looking for cards that can hedge against other matches. my local meta is too healthy for blood moon to be my bullet. crazy that I am able to say that right now.

I love jund. I love any black green midrange. I love the Liliana scooze goyf engine. But you sir, Are an insufferable douche.

Your whole "I'm a bad ass, Jund is the greatest deck EVARRR, Fuck His feelings" spill is gross. But I'm Not here to start a flame war. I honestly just got the worse vibe from reading your work

Snapdisastermage. I understand your opinion. Thank you for providing that insight. I guess you just have to know my personality to get it. I have also been playing Jund for years now almost exclusively. There's a reason why I won't switch. It remains tier 1 after multiple bannings that target it.

I am not here to start an argument, and I am sorry you didn't enjoy my ramblings. But I digress.

I sincerely mean it when I say this; best of luck in your future matches, man.

i think people tend to hate on jund a lot because its an expensive deck in modern. at least, thats been the reaction I've gotten a few times. like, 'you must be a pretentious douche to buy a deck that costs that much'. i don't get it, but whatever. but, i agree that Jund is the greatest deck EVARRR :D

August 31, 2016 4:30 p.m.

I don't hate jund. BGx is my all time favorite archetype. I've switched back and forth between Jund and junk for going on 4 years now. I was hasty, But I was referring to his attitude.

jund is a good deck, is it the greatest....? as long as it doesnt get hit by bannings like other great decks did, Twin / Amulet Bloom / Eldrazi Aggro / Birthing Pod.

September 6, 2016 5:08 p.m.

grumbledore says... #24

It's been hit by multiple bannings. Still throwing the smack down.

frogkill45 says... #25

Well honestly to me a deck like jund is just example of expensive cards make a good deck. The synergy between these cards is almost non existent. I can see if you added like tarfire and Mishra bauble to help get goyf bigger and hit delirium for possible grim flayer. But as it stands now jund is just a collection of expensive cards that all play good by themselves
