Baby_bacca Fair enough, although a Glorybringer can turn a game around, come turn 5. Say they have too many blockers for aggro to be effective, if you swing in with a Glorybringer and a Ahn-Crop Crasher you eliminate 2 of their blockers and likely swing in for lethal. I'd rather get rid of Hazoret's Monument than Glorybringer just because of those types of scenarios.

Red-White will probably be better. But you want deserts in a Monocolor Amonkhet deck. I also recommend Bloodlust Inciter instead of Prophetic Ravings.

InfuriatedBrute Bloodlust Inciter would be worse in this deck as it can not give anything haste the turn I play it, and it doesn't give me the option to pseudo-cycle. I also wouldn't want to run deserts, because while they give me the opportunity to have some extra utility, they can also Mana Screw me.

a black splash enables use Scrapheap Scrounger and Alms of the Vein, have you considered them?

April 16, 2017 6:17 p.m.

Bloodlust inciter = the turn after you play it all creatures have haste. Plus you get a 1/1. And deserts can't mana-screw you if you include 2-6 of them.

nvmorale I really like Alms of the Vein especially in this deck, however I would like to keep my mana base as consistent as possible, and splashing a color could through that off. Since this is a discard deck I never want to mulligan at the beginning, and I'm afraid that that is what might happen if I splash a color. I'm not the best with standard mana bases so I want to keep it simple as possible.

InfuriatedBrute the one creature I really want to give haste to is Combat Celebrant, and maybe Furyblade Vampire. Beside's those two I feel no need to give any of my creatures haste. So I can accomplish that much more efficiently with Cartouche of Zeal. The only desert that would fit into this deck is Sunscorched Desert and that one damage isn't worth it.

Oh, you're budget. Deserts aren't worth the cash then I guess. Definitely at least 1 is worth it ignoring cash tho, since it's literally impossible to mana screw with one. And yeah I guess your creatures are prowess so haste won't be helpful generally.

InfuriatedBrute I'm not budget, when I say the deserts aren't worth running, I mean they are so bad I don't want to run them. They may be useful elsewhere, but not here. My main goals for land are; quick and ready access to red mana, and consistent land drops to finish out quickly.

April 16, 2017 8:11 p.m.

Well in that case they're strictly better than Mountains, at least in groups of 2. Grasping dune, for example, doubles as "2 mana: destroy target 3/1" which is great, the zombie land helps you curve off, and the burn desert is a straight boost to aggro. You should also definitely be running 4x creatures, and some of these cards are really bad imo like Battlefield Scavenger, Ahn-Crop. Why aren't you using more old red creatures, and taking from the competitive decklists? And why are you mono-red?

InfuriatedBrute In no way are deserts better than mountains this deck. They have utility potential, yes, however this deck does not look for that type of utility. I'm looking for unblockable beaters who will kill the opponent turn 5, not a land I can use in a fringe scenario. I'm not running all 4 of's, because it leaves my deck vulnerable to one card or strategy that would disturb it. Instead I am running with several different cards to vary up my options. Ahn-Crop Crasher provides me with a way in to deal damage turn 3 if they have put out a blocker. battlefield scavenger provides me with a creature that buffs my Flameblade Adept's as they swing, as well as provides me with pseudo-cycling. I'm not taking from competitive decklists because I am a brewer, not a net-decker. And I'm mono-red because the play testing I have done with this deck has shown me that it's not necessary to run a support color. I have brewed similar decks to this, one was Gruul, and I found that (,) made the strategy less competitive. Other builds were Boros and Naya, those proved to be less than satisfactory as well.

One desert is literally strictly better, there's literally no reason not to run it. And this is a very bad deck compared to Mardu Vehicles, which is also a red aggro deck, so I'm not sure what your goals are. And 19 lands is not working at all.

foxboy1000 says... #13

InfuriatedBrute What desert would that be? The sideboard handles Mardu Vehicles, so what are you talking about? Lastly 19 lands has been fairly consistent for me, and the sideboard contains extra if I ever feel like it's not working.

April 16, 2017 10:38 p.m.

In my view you took a very common theme (aggro with no particular synergy), did a worse job than the current version of it (mardu vehicles), and didn't follow the common deck-building principles of : at least 22 lands in standard (doing it by feel will get you a lower value like 19 but if you do the you get statistics like "you will get your fourth land by turn 6 on average") , full basics are bad unless if you have a specific reason (every mono deck carries cards like Westvale Abbey simply because 1 mountain/plains plus 1 desert/abbey is strictly better than 2 mountain/plains), and including 4x unless you have a specific reason (which you apparently don't for most cards with less than 4x), and using the top decks as a guide to which cards are strong, and having some form of card draw in Standard, and having a way to deal Saheeli.

But I'll probably leave now since I don't think I can give helpful advice that isn't "rethink your whole strategy", I just don't like this deck at all.

Alright then. Anybody else who would like to comment and/or provide advice, what you see above this is an example of what not to do. I hope that this will not discourage you from commenting as I am always open to suggestions, just know that I'm free to reject them.

IIRC there's some way to clear comment history if you want, or archive comments.
