Inspired from several amazing and fun legacy decks. I hope everyone enjoys this.
Combo Explanation
This combo is quite simple to do, but it requires some setup. The backbone of this combo revolves around Nettle Sentinel and
Heritage Druid
working together. They do this through Nettle Sentinel's ability of untapping when you cast a green spell. Optimally, you would want 3 Nettle Sentinels with a Heritage Druid for this combo to work at the bare minimum, but there's other things that you're going to want to do with the combo. Probably the most practical version of the combo working is with the aforementioned Nettle Sentinel and
Heritage Druid
but however, you're also going to want to have Elvish Visionary and Cloudstone Curio out as well as another elf card of any sort in your hand. This version requires only 2 of the Nettle Sentinels out at once. Here's how it works.
Tap the 2 Nettle Sentinels and the Elvish Visionary to get 3 green mana from Heritage Druid.
Play an Elf creature.
Untap the Nettle Sentinels and bring the Elvish Visionary back to your hand with Cloudstone Curio.
Repeat, cycling between the other elf and Elvish Visionary, drawing through your deck and playing other creatures that you get along the way.
Fish through your deck, still playing the other cards you get until you find a Craterhoof Behemoth. At this point you should have enough mana stocked up from the Heritage Druid that you should be able to cast it.
Swing with every available creature that you have, including the Craterhoof Behemoth's as they have haste.
When this works (It usually does) it works amazingly and it's so enjoyable to do as you see the expression on your opponents face fade to sadness. However, even if it doesnt work, you still have a lot of potential win conditions in the form of Joraga Warcaller and Elvish Archdruid
Sideboard Explanation
Asceticism: I found that I had a lot of trouble with decks that had straight removal and burn spells. While this solution takes a while to get on board, I found that it worked well. This card also helps deal with different sweepers. With the ability to regenerate your creatures, you can save a lot of your creatures from cards like
Supreme Verdict
or Day of Judgment. If you had something like Elvish Archdruid on the field, you shouldn't have a problem protecting the majority of your creatures from being destroyed.
Back to Nature: I put this card in for decks that deal with a lot of enchantments like Bogle. This can also be useful for several lifegain decks as well. Most of these decks focus on having enchantments to buff up their creatures, and if you can get rid of them that's good.
Creeping Corrosion: I feel this choice is a little self explanatory. Affinity is a deck that can show up a lot and can be annoying to deal with if you don't have the sufficient spells to get rid of it. Also, this card can get around things like Etched Champion and how it has protection from all colors, as it doesn't get directly targeted by Creeping Corrosion we can still get rid of it anyway. Be very careful though as to use this card cautiously. A big combo piece of yours is Cloudstone Curio which will get destroyed in the process. If you have the option to play both, play creeping corrosion first.
Melira, Sylvok Outcast: Another card that I feel its self explanatory. This card efficiently shuts down Turbo Infect.
Relic of Progenitus: This one came down to a choice between Tormod's Crypt and this card. I originally had used Tormod's Crypt in the sideboard but I moved it out in favor of Relic. My reason for this is I noticed that Tormod's Crypt only removes from one player's graveyard. Most dredge decks or decks that have graveyard interaction can also use your graveyard as well as their own, so being able to exile both is ultimately the better choice. Crypt is still being reprinted in M15, so if you find it easier to get your hands on those, then by all means try to use that, but I feel that Relic overall is better.
Reclamation Sage: I put this in my sideboard for decks like Pod, Splinter Twin, Bogle, and Affinity. It's good hate for a lot of decks that use artifacts and enchantments. Not to mention that it can be tutored with Elvish Harbinger.
Gaea's Herald
: This is the card I'm the most hazy about. It's not really run in a lot of decks, but I feel like it has its uses in a lot of different control match-ups like RWU. This may or may not make the cut as I do testing on the deck. I could eventually take this out for
Witchbane Orb
. However, like Reclamation Sage, this can also be tutored with Elvish Harbinger making it pretty useful.
However, this sideboard is a bit frantic and covers a lot of different archtypes that are played in modern. This sideboard could definitely be refined, and I'll definitely do that more as I test it more. Any suggestions would still be greatly appreciated if you test out the deck yourself. Like, I might eventually have to make room for something that would give me hexproof like
Witchbane Orb
for things like Slaughter Games, Extirpate, or Surgical Extraction however there really isn't room right now. It's just going to take a lot of testing to finally get the deck where it needs to be. Right now though, I think the main board is really solid.
Thank you to Boza and josehv for the suggestions on how to improve the deck so far
Overall, thank you everyone for looking at my deck and I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I do.
