Dark Privilege is an all-star in Shirei decks. The art also happens to be awesome!

You know what, sure. I cut Death Cloud for Dark Privilege.

We'll see how that goes. Death Cloud is one of my favorite cards but yolo.

Oh no, I love Deathcloud too! Maybe cut Scrap Trawler since it doesn't come back or Hedron Crawler since you already have Manakin.

Scrap Trawler ... does a lot, especially when you have an artifact creature and shirei on the field. Though, with the lack of a "may", it's a bit risky, allowing yourself to be shot in the foot if you mess up somehow or if they remove all of your obvious targets from your graveyard.

Idk, neither is particularly important. Don't really want to cut mana in any way -- this is about as little as I feel you can get away with and not end up screwed.

I love this! I rarely see a build so similar to mine! Hell yeah! I love playing shirei

I like to use Dust Bowl to sac an activated Blinkmoth Nexus or Inkmoth Nexus to blow up a land and get my nexus back

4 mana for a land is a bad deal in this deck, unfortunately :(

January 15, 2020 12:08 a.m.

With Shirei, Kormus Bell , and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth you can bring back strip mine, wasteland, and ghost quarter every turn and wipe everyone's mana out pretty fast.

If Kormus Bell survives, and if shirei is protected, for sure.

Without incredible setup, its a tempting foot gun. Would definitely run it in a more casual / budget deck.

A full "Spirit of the inanimate" style build with a lot of "turn X into creature with power = CMC" is a fun way to shirei, but alas, this deck is not for fun (or, only for the player to have fun).

Great Idea too bad you can't 'Learn' in EDH.

I'll probably put Brainstone in instead of eyetwitch that would be a pretty neat 1 cost to recur.

Bitterblossom - Synergy with contamination, token fodder for smoke stack, attrition, blocker, etc....

Your wincon is commander reliant. Have you considered an additional, versatile form of protection for it such as Imp's Mischief? It "counters" counterspells and redirects targeted removal, draw and extra turns! Conqueror's flail is a solid, repeatable option but it's more mana and easily telegraphed.

Infernal Darkness - Contaminations cousin. It can easily stall for a turn or 2 without creatures, and doesn't affect your coffers, Phyrexian Tower, Lake of the Dead or ancient tomb.

I don't understand Soulless Jailer, as it seems completely counterintuitive to your gameplan. Is your meta filled with so many graveyard decks that you require symmetrical grave hate? I get that you can sacrifice it, but it seems unnecessary. What has been your experience playing with it for about a year? Have you considered swapping it out with something asymmetrical such as Soul-Guide Lantern?

Bitterblossom Yeah if I was good at this game I'd probably run that for all the times Shirei gets sent to the impound lot.

Infernal Darkness I cannot ramp hard enough to support it usually but yeah its a good card.

Soulless Jailer -- ha ha! It is asymmetrical! Simply don't sacrifice him on your opponents turns! His ability is not active while he is a card in the graveyard, only when he is a creature, so it works quite well. As for "is your meta cursed?" yeah its hell. I play with like, cobblepot tier degenerates most of the time. Maelstrom Wanderer and Karador are common. One guy has a Chainer deck its nuts lmao.

oo note on wincons! You can use Shirei to torture everyone to death, but there is also the sorcery speed infinite loop with Living Death, Thrilling Encore + Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed,

and the Nether Traitor + Phyrexian Altar + something that makes a token loop

January 10, 2024 2:55 p.m.

Profet93 says... #18

With the living death loop, don't opponent's also get their ETB's as well? Something like Terastodon could really hurt you.

January 10, 2024 5:45 p.m.

SomeDipshit says... #19

yes, yes it could, lol. Ideally I get Thrilling Encore (which is everyone's creatures) or I have to get a little creative to get rid of threats / mitigate any damage they can deal.

If it ever looks like I might kill myself with the loop, just like, I don't do it then, and try to win with bullshit.
