Tiny leaders is a 1v1 Variant of EDH with 50 cards rather than 100, 25 life, no Commander Damage, and a CMC cap of 3.
This deck can go Voltronish, with Varolz building up counters and regenerating, but its not geared specifically for that.
There are a few creatures that are unblockable or have shadow, like Nether Traitor or
Tormented Soul
, and giving these guys a boost can be effective. There is also Whispersilk Cloak for sneaking through the defenses of the opponent. (Ive also been considering Rogue's Passage but am not quite sure its colorless mana is worth the potential for unblockabiilty. This deck is pretty color hungry as far as mana goes.)
Varolz obviously wants things in the Yard, so we have Buried Alive and Mesmeric Orb (Which has the added bonus of milling out the opponent) coupled with the dredge and land recursion non-bo of Tranquil Thicket/Barren Moor and Life from the Loam. another decent dredge card is
Shambling Shell
which fits in with the Zombie theme, the Counters theme, and the dredge theme. I love this card. To lessen the risk of decking myself, I've included Gaea's Blessing so that I can dredge and dredge, shuffle in if it gets dredged, and dredge some more.
Sooner or later with all this dredging, and with Mesmeric orb milling everybody down,
Phyrexian Dreadnought
, Death's Shadow, Hunted Horror and
Force of Savagery
will end up in the yard, and these are some of the most desireable targets for Varolz' Scavenge granting ability. And Scavenging them onto a Nether Traitor or
Tormented Soul
leads to devastating swings. Nether traitor is excellent for this deck, because even if dredged into the yard, a simple sac to Varolz of any other creature and a black mana sends him back out to the Field to get busy.
There are also Several Other Useful Zombies, such as Gravecrawler who can sac repeatedly to Put counters on Carrion Feeder, or to Regenerate Varolz. or couple with Phyrexian Altar to build up infinite Gravestorm counters for Bitter Ordeal!
Zombie Cannibal
is useful spot gravehate on a body.
Lord of the Undead
can help to recur all these zombies, Giving them a boost and allowing shenanigans with Fleshbag Marauder for field clearing. And of Course Zombie Master and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth Means all the aforementioned creatures are unblockable; making the scavenge all the better.
Now for outright killing things, so our Pumped up creatures can get in and do some real damage if Unblockability somehow fails, Several things available are Doom Blade, Murder, Putrefy,
Sudden Death
for those Indestructibles, and Smother
I've been enjoying this deck a lot recently. It's fun, and it leaves a bit of the game to chance with the dredging and The Orb and G Blessing. (c'mon... big creatures big creatures, No Whammys)
Any thoughts, or ideas or suggestions are always welcome and appreciated. Thanks for taking the Time to look this Over!!
