I did some reviewing of the heroic mechanic as I also tried a deck simliarRulings
A heroic ability triggers only when the creature's controller casts a spell that targets it, not when any other player does.A heroic ability triggers whenever a player casts any spell that targets the heroic creature, including a spell that also targets another creature. If a spell targets multiple creatures with heroic abilities, all of them trigger.Activated abilities, such as equip, do not cause heroic abilities to trigger. An instant or sorcery spell has a target if it includes the word "target" in its rules text. Each Aura spell also has a target, indicated by its enchant ability.Creature spells and other permanent spells (except for Auras) never have targets.Heroic abilities will resolve before the spell that caused them to trigger.Heroic abilities will trigger only once per spell, even if that spell targets the creature with the heroic ability multiple times.Heroic abilities won't trigger when a copy of a spell is created on the stack or when a spell's targets are changed to include a creature with a heroic ability.
Thus after review it only triggers once each turn, You would have to be gaining a great deal of life each turn for it to work

@Osphilia I'm not sure what you are referring to as per the heroic rules. The Sunbond card combo requires 5 life to be gained to place 5 counters on the sage and get an extra turn which is not that much with all the lifegain in the deck. The heroic ability is just a bonus of an extra counter every once and a while.

You would actually only need to gain 4 life as you would get a counter when enchanting Sage of Hours with Sunbond :p
I like this deck. I may have build something around that combo myself as I been looking to get into Standard now that rotation is close.

First off, I love this deck. Quirky/rogue decks are the reason I love this game and keep playing. Figured I chime in with some suggestions for additions. I notice when I playtest this deck I never seem to draw the right creatures to get it going and there isn't enough control to keep your opponent in check long enough for you to start. I could see Hopeful Eidolon being decent here since it's a one-drop in an opening hand and still useful later, not to mention has synergy with the theme of the deck. Soldier of the Pantheon is awesome right now too. I also noticed that you haven't updated with any Khans cards yet. Seeker of the Way seems viable as another decent cheap creature. I really don't like Soul of Theros . While good, its too slow and clunky for this deck. I'd replace it with more control or Ordeal of Heliod (as mentioned). Maindecking Deicide seems like 2 wasted slots that could be better utilized, not sure with what yet.
It's really hard to protect the Sage of Hours unless I am able to play him and "go off'" in the same turn, which tends to be my main focus when playing. I love how Battle Mastery + Daxos of Meletis works, probably my favorite thing to do in this deck.
The mana base needs some work & gets a bump as well with Tranquil Cove (which has synergy despite CIPT, I'd drop the Temple's for them, personally) & Flooded Strand . Also, Mana Confluence make sense since the lose of life won't be that much of a factor. This will obviously make the value of the deck skyrocket.
I'm gonna be fooling around with this deck for a couple weeks and I'll post more suggestions as I realize them. Keep up the great work.

Ya, this deck looks like a blast. I think from Khans Feat of Resistance could be a good add. You get a counter on Sage or Pridemate and keep them safe from most red and black removal. If you do go the route of splashing green, Ajani, Mentor of Heroes is an awesome add. 3 counters for Sage of Hours every turn, and eventually you could go infinite with his gain 100 life ability as well. Searching for a creature or an Ajani Steadfast is nice too. Green would give you the ability to play around with Courser of Kruphix for life gain, mana fixing and a bit of draw manipulation and Feed the Clan would be interesting as well :-D Overall though it looks like you've got things down! Have fun! -Terror

I made a similar deck awhile back that used Ajani, Mentor of Heroes + Corpsejack Menace + Sage of Hours for literally infinite turns. Ajani puts 3 counters on Sage, they double, remove all of them, end the turn, rinse and repeat until I draw and play my threats (Sphinx of the Steel Wind and Worldspine Wurm ) and then -8 Ajani. Here it is: Sage of Hours? More like Sage of Years!

Great deck :D, but remember your total of four cards includes cards in your sideboard as well. Just watch out on Feat of Resistance +1!

Have been play testing this on here and wow... So deliciously evil. Nicely done. Now the only question afterwards would be if it's possible to actually get the combo going infinite. Have you tried this in a match yet?
September 30, 2014 6:55 p.m.
@DalDakota Nice catch I didn't even notice that. @YouEnjoyMyself I've gotten this combo off tons of times in actual matches, its always great to see the opponents face because no one really cares about Sage of Hours and it never really clicks until I've played against them a few time that he is a force to be reckoned with haha.

Actually went out and built this deck for standard constructed. Love it!!!!!

Going through my cards today found Ephara's Enlightenment and it just screams perfect for this deck.

@gro0ve I actually used to have Ephara's Enlightenment in the deck but changed it out for Battle Mastery which I find synergies much better with the deck overall and turns Daxos of Meletis into an overpowered bomb.

I am going to repeat myself. Your deck is deliciously evil. I've built this and am going to take it to a free standard event tonight. So far in my self play tests I have been able to go get the combo off quite frequently. When i'm not drawing the cards, it seems to at least balance itself out with what it has. I'm going to try add those Aqueous Form to the sideboard. I like the idea.
Anwyay, thanks again for the deck. Wish i could Plus 1 this again. I keep laughing during play tests.
Cheers!

I know the deck is awesome as is, can't help but keep finding possible cards for it haha!
have you tried Nature's Panoply yet?
October 2, 2014 4:43 p.m.
@gro0ve haha thanks, I think Ephara's Enlightenment would work really well in this deck if it were more creature based. I don't think I would use Nature's Panoply but if I were to add another green card I would try out Solidarity of Heroes .

Okay... So i went and playtested this.... Sadly... It was destroyed. First matchup was against mono green devotion and i was able to take it to 3 games (Barely).
Second match was a bit of a let down since i went against someone who was already 1-0 and i was 0-1. He was playing Mono Red and well... got crushed there too.
3rd Match was again Mono Green... Crushed...
As cool as the deck is when playtesting, it just was not able to keep up with all these other decks out there that well.. are the "Tournament Winning" decks.
Either way i still like your idea, just sad that i didn't work for me. Any other ideas to help combat the current meta? Would be nice to put up a good fight. Or did i do something wrong?
October 3, 2014 8:35 p.m.
@YouEnjoyMyself Sorry to hear that it turned out that way. Ironically I've found the most success in this deck against mono green. Mono red is difficult but I've updated the sideboard and there are some changes you can make to make your experience much better. Against both mono red and green you are going to want to sub out the Soldier of the Pantheon as multi color is no longer a factor haha. You also want to put both Godsend back in as the right attack can cut out a crucial part of their deck. I would also stick the 2 Dawnbringer Charioteers in there. That's all the advice I have for now but I'm going to do some more testing. Like I said in the update I think putting more protection into the deck is going to be key alongside fixing the land base. Thanks for trying it out though!
