I see big robot, I build big robot deck, that's all there is to it.

OVERVIEW

Shorikai is kinda nuts. Allow me to explain:

For 4 mana, you get an artifact vehicle, immediately making it immune to all forms of specifically-creature removal, and all creature-targeted-boardwipes.

Because it's not a creature, summoning sickness doesn't apply, so you can use its ability as soon as you cast it.

Its ability? For 1 (one) mana, you draw 2 cards, discard a card, and make a 1/1 pilot token.

... THAT'S A LOTTA SAUCE FOR 1 MANA. Regardless, the rest of the deck is just... abuse your pilots and other untap shenanigans to dig through your deck and find things to win the game.

Also to note, I intentionally avoided all mana dorks and the like, I'm well aware this deck gets WAAAAAAY stronger without the vehicle subtheme, but to me, that's just way less fun.

NOTABLE CARDS

Halo Fountain

Show

Super useful utility card with a wincon stapled to it. You prooobably won't hit the wincon, but it's there if you're able. The first and second ability are quite useful, especially since you can freely tap any number of creatures at a time by crewing them into a vehicle.

Mechtitan Core

Show

98% included because it's REALLY COOL. That being said, it's quite easy to activate its ability in this deck with all the vehicles and/or artifact creatures we'll have lying around, and as a worst case scenario, you can actually use it to save your boardstate to a degree, rather than going all Power Rangers. If you see someone's about to boardwipe, you can send 4 of your most important vehicles/artifact creatures into Mechtitan's ability, summoning Mechtitan. Mechtitan will immediately die to the boardwipe, BUT, all of the things you sent to create Mechtitan will come straight back, excluding Mechtitan Core of course.

But yeah it's way more fun to punch someone in the head with Mechtitan, so try that out first.

Mobilizer Mech

Show

VERY useful vehicle, and essentially means any of your vehicles, once, has Crew 3. Which, looking at Shorikai's Crew 8, is a better number. Fills a very similar role to the better-known Peacewalker Colossus

Prototype Portal

Easily my favourite card in this deck, the shenanigans are real. I intentionally run as many artifact lands in this deck as I can, NOT for Metalcraft, though it helps, but for PROTOTYPE PORTAL.

Because basically, if you feed Prototype Portal an artifact land such as Seat of the Synod, you can now pay X, where X is 0, to tap Prototype Portal, to generate a free Seat of the Synod during each of your turns.

Throw Unwinding Clock into the mix and you have some RAMP.

Also just so helps we have lots of smaller artifacts to throw into there as well that can also be useful, so get creative with it.

If you want to grow some chest hair throw Reaver Titan into it.

Reaver Titan

Not a day goes by where I don't thank a higher power for gifting us with this beautiful vehicle.

So, it's a 10/10, with crew 4. Protection for 3cmc or less means it's immune to almost all commonly used targeted removal in commander, if it's not a creature, it's immune to creature-based boardwipes, and it can't be blocked by tokens, ever. It also just vomits 15 damage onto the board for free just by attacking, and if you connect with someone's face, well, there's that 10 power I mentioned earlier.

This thing is INSANE, and is probably your go-to vehicle target if you ever tutor anything up.

Anchor to Reality

Show

Send a poor pilot to the shadow realm to pull Reaver Titan out of your ass, it's just how these things go. Could also target Parhelion II, isn't a bad choice.

Arcum Dagsson

Show

Fantastic way to make the table panic. If he survives a rotation... the world's your oyster really, there's 38 things to choose from in the deck so go to town, you can sacrifice a thopter or something.

Containment Construct

Show

This card is LOVELY, since the only bad thing about Shorikai's ability is that you need to discard a card. Well, with this out, you can activate Shorikai, discard a land, and then play that land for turn. Obviously you can just do this for any card you were planning to cast that turn anyways.

Daring Thief

In a deck full of vehicles, tapping things is absurdly easy. Crew this dude with a vehicle at some point, and when he untaps, gift your best friend a pilot, and take the best creature they have in exchange. If you're feeling REALLY generous, you can gift them a thopter, and then steal any creature, OR any artifact they control.

For maximum spice, use Liquimetal Torque to turn Daring Thief into an artifact, crew a vehicle with him, and then use the myriad of artifact untap shenanigans to start stealing things immediately!

Intruder Alarm

Probably the most broken card in the deck, and kinda the card Shorikai is known for running.

Crew Shorikai so it's a vehicle, and THEN activate its ability. This will produce a token, which will untap Shorikai. Proceed to dig through your deck at your own discretion. The card can certainly backfire if you aren't careful since it affects the field as a whole, but generally speaking, the pros outweigh the cons.
