Keep your opponents on their toes with Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage. With our deck constructed appropriately, it should resemble having a Vedalken Orrery in the command zone.

Raff's not quite that good, but when he's on the battlefield, just over half our deck can be played at instant speed. Opponents won't know if you've got a counter, a removal spell or a big-bodied blocker waiting in the wings to disrupt their plans. Some of the more novel surprises include a one-sided board wipe in Scourglass, an 8/8 hexproof kraken with Kiora Bests the Sea God and a random extra turn out of nowhere via Karn's Temporal Sundering. Oh, and abuse wraths with an Avacyn, Angel of Hope you can flash in.

To take advantage of Raff's historic synergies, the deck leans into artifacts and cards that pair well with them. Foundry Inspector, Etherium Sculptor, Solemn Simulacrum and Sol Ring are part of our instant speed ramp. Dispatch is suddenly an improved copy of Swords to Plowshares. Hanna, Ship's Navigator and Trading Post should keep recurring our best tools. Thran Temporal Gateway doubles as a backup for Raff and is an improvement for expensive fatties we don't want countered.

We'll try to win by producing threats our opponents can't respond to in time. Traxos, Scourge of Kroog, Metalwork Colossus and Darksteel Juggernaut effectively have haste if we plan our turns correctly. Shrewd Negotiation will allow us to swap a treasure or thopter for a threat of our choice.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. I try to make all my decks budget, and this one is no different. Avacyn accounts for about 33% of the deck's cost.
