Greetings! I participated in a draft at Blue Highway Games and went 3-0. I started out with a few good red and black removal spells and just started to build around those. I was hoping to build into red/black Eldrazi, but didn't see the cards for it. Instead, I just went with board removal, card advantage, and evasion. I decided at the last minute to throw one island in at the last minute to try to get the most out of my Radiant Flames and Painful Truths. Oddly enough, I saw that one island about 6 out of my 7 games.
My first set, in all honesty, I shouldn't have won. I played alright, by my opponent just had unfortunate draws. I was able to drag out the games and repeatedly cleared his board and dragged the game out. I often had to trade my own board to do so. The games I did win I just built up card advantage and was able to swing in enough hits with the various menace creatures. I won in three.
The second set I played against red white allies. He had good 2 costs and rushed my down to 6 before I cleared the board with Radiant Flames. I was able to keep my creatures out and drew additional removal to keep him down long enough to win the game. The second game he had to mulligan to 4, and while the game took longer than it should have due to my low creature count, I drew all of my board clears and was in good control the whole game. I won in two.
The final set was against a Green/Blue ramp deck, leading to a Desolation Twin and
Plated Crusher
. The early game was hard, but again I stabilized with a board wipe and came back, and traded well and won in two.
