My main EDH isn't a graveyard deck primarily but it has a lot of synergy with the grave so I threw Witchbane Orb in. Check it out if you have a minute. The Darkest Soul

Hey dude its fantastic to see someone else having a blast running Volrath, or as I like to call him, Mr. One-Shot. I took a more colorless critter route in my build, and I run an awesome card called Spreading Plague in it. Its one of my favorite cards in EDH, it kills so much, and really keeps opponents critter count down, which makes it easier for Volrath to get thru.

SpiritOfTheNight, first let me say I love the username. Spirit of the Night is one of my favorite creatures ever, and when I want to run a more "fun" version of this deck I always make him my commander.
I'm always happy to hear about people running Volrath, he is as awesome as he is underrated. I feel like people see him and think "Too expensive for what he does, maybe fun with madness" and they really don't see it. He's a bargain that can hit the table early with just some small quick ramp. And his ability is TOO good, easily abusable, and as black as it gets.
Spreading Plague is amazing. I can see it doing one of two things: Locking creature decks almost entirely out of the game, OR eating a removal spell that the opponent is going to regret losing when the actual win cons are on the table. I'm going to probably buy one today, thanks for the excellent suggestion!

As another mana ramp option, maybe run a Liturgy of Blood ? It can kill creatures pretty quickly. Or a Crypt Ghast would work, as it's effect affects Swamps. +1

dood amazing! thank you for building this! ive really stayed away from building mono black edh but this one looks absolutely worth it and incredibly fun! as opposed to just playing a ton of ramp/ tutors/ and one-card-bones-the-whole-table-cards. :P

is true Crypt Ghast is illegal on mono black commander because the extort ability have a white mana symbol on activation cost?

No, that is not true. Crypt Ghast is not illegal because the text on extort is a rules reminder text, not an actual ability cost. It does not factor into the card's color identity. It merely has the ability "Extort", and in parenthesis it explains how the mechanic for that ability works.

My first and only playtest of this deck went like this:
turn 1 (playing first) - swamp, sol ring, manacrypt, crypt ghast
turn 2 - swamp, volrath, fleetfeather sandals
turn 3 - equip sandals, diabolic tutor, discard draco, swing for game

Thanks for all the input and the +1's! :D
Volrath is always being tested and "improved" so keep an eye out for future updates!
I love seeing your guy's spins, and hearing stories about how you personally fed someone a turn 3 Draco !
Ghosthunter39 has an awesome build right here
The one true Evincar has returned!!!!

What I hate is that they never made Yawgmoth as a legendary creature. Maybe we can see a true Phyrexia deck so we may fulfill Yawgmoth's final wishes before he died. All hail Phyrexia!!!

Ghosthunter39, Volrath is a competitive general for sure. I still play him in more casual settings, but I always try to win through an interesting way and play a bit of politics. I play in a commander league that is pretty competitive, and it's been great for helping me hone this deck's "killing edge"
DaitokujiAmnael, A Yawgmoth card would be scary. It would need to be broken to even make sense. I would like to see some of the developers come up with cards that they think would represent him, but not necessarily get printed. The mystery is part of what makes the legend.

Something like Yawgmoth, Father of Machines or something like that. It would make a crazy card. But I think Yawgmoth died in the lore. So unless he becomes reanimated as a zombie or something, the idea will never see the light of day.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth . yea he died. They still haven't made Urza as a legendary creature. Which i think he would be white/red

Oh well, let's go for the next best thing...a Crovax deck!!!

After this, can you do a Crovax deck, since he was the last evincar before the fall of Phyrexia.

That's definitelyTrue about DeathCloud. Same reason I don't play combos like Massacre Wurm and Natural Affinity , although hilarious and fun to pull off it just ruins the format, also I found the card Hatred to be super not fun because when you win on turn 3 you still have 89 cool cards you don't get to play. So one more suggestion to go along with your graveyard hate concern, because everybody seems to play Bojuka Bog the best remedy I have come up with is Witchbane Orb . Even if you don't have any creatures in your graveyard Crypt of Agadeem still taps for B, you should give it a try, I've had it tap for 10 after someone wiped the board!
