Volrath has always been my favorite card, Tasigur is a close second. I'm modifying this decklist since I'm not able to afford most of the pricey ramp cards. Also making it a bit more reanimator. Great idea, thanks for sharing this. Always wanted to make a volrath edh, this is where I'm starting.

Have you thought about Phyresis? It will sadly fall off after Volrath gains protection from Black but it could turn any boosting card into a kill. It also fits well with the theme because nothing is more rude than an Infect loss.

Had a great run with my version of this deck tonight. A little more reanimator, less horribly instant killing- mostly due to budget reasons. I added a Lord of the Void I picked up in a trade, which has provided exceptional value (Hit an opponent, got a Prophet of Kruphix out)- went into Marit Lage, ulted Liliana for all the creatures, Imp's Mischief'd a time stretch, and then toxic deluge to knock out all creatures but my Marit Lage (one of my opponents had cloned it, I had caged sun out) and bring Volrath back from the yard with Stands of Undeath on the first extra turn, then attacked for lethal, discarding Draco on the second.
It was a fantastic run and the deck did really well, although I have to partially attribute it to some of the players evaluating Volrath poorly. At least two of the players were much more worried about Rafiq or Xenagod killing them than they were about Volrath.

I've been extremely successful playing this deck. Still have to get a few of the more expensive cards, but it works great. I put in Ugin until I get Karn, and don't have Kozilek yet, but I do have an altered and signed Blightsteel Colossus with tentacles!
I see your replacing the Aether Snap, but so far getting rid of tokens has been a key play at times. I like the new Command Beacon, but Sanctum of Ugin should also stay.
My favorite plays are using Quicksilver Amulet to bring out Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, or It That Betrays and equipping Lightning Greaves for some quick annihilation!

I see Pestilence is in the maybeboard... That's not in the 99. Put that card into the main deck 100% of the time. It's so freaking good for what it does.

Really fun card to use just incase you want a way to kill without discarding a card is Hatred just let him not be blocked, play and pay 16 life and it's instakill. If you also combine it with some lifelink such as Whip of Erebos and/or Basilisk Collar and it becomes kill target player who is too dumb to block for 5.

Unfortunately Emrakul is on the WOTC ban list, otherwise I'm sure he'd be the first creature that went into the other 99.

Embrace is too slow/costly. He had it in the original list, but pulled it after testing.

There's a new equipment that might be viable for this in SOI, Haunted Cloak. Vigilance, haste, trample is hard to beat, and the equip cost is fine.

May i suggest B.F.M. (Big Furry Monster)? Just kidding i really like the deck but I'm trying to make a volrath budget, so, what cards (<$20) in your opinion are OK to take out, And what are the true staples that must stay in?
April 19, 2016 3:12 p.m.
Honestly, taking out the foils will go a long way.
Depending on how budget you want to go, you could drop several of the expensive Eldrazi, e.g. It That Betrays, the Legends (maybe just keep Butcher of Truth for the draw and reshuffle), and Bightsteel. These can be swapped for cheaper Eldrazi.
Then you could cut Dark Depths and Damnation for another hundred.
Compared to this, my Volrath list (Sith Happens) is much more budget friendly, but I still run the expensive Eldrazi. You could cross reference a few lists to find a comfortable medium.
The only important mainstays of the deck are card draw, creatures with 7+ CMC, and evasion. You can do whatever you want within those limits. I like to add in a reanimation subtheme.

I like the deck, but good god, the description needs some kind of accordion spoiler. I'm reading this on mobile and it took me something like 5 minutes to reach the bottom so I could comment. Regardless, you get a +1 from me :)
Unless you're playing in an extremely graveyard-based meta, Living Death and Twilight's Call seem very good here. Also, you're missing the classic Animate Dead and Necromancy, both of which are nigh-broken in EDH.

What I want to know is, how much is this deck without foils?
May 22, 2016 12:35 p.m.
How do you feel about Cabal Ritual? It might have better luck here than in my decks since your commander is literally a discard outlet. I've actually quit using it because I never have the cards I need in the grave to make it worth playing, but you might.

In your description, you mentioned the hacthing egg could help hatch a Blightsteel Colossus from the graveyard. But Blightsteel Colossus states that it will be shuffled into the library once it reaches the grave.
Anyways, I love your deck, +1 from me!

Love it!!

New Ulamog is being tested right now! I am excited that his ability (though admittedly no Annihilator) is its own win condition! :) His on cast ability is great, and Indestructible is always nice! He will almost certainly stay in the deck!
Conduit of Ruin is in my maybe pile. Lots of good advantage, but I don't have the open slots to test him out just yet. Right now Void Winnower and Ob Nixilis Reignited are getting tested out. Ob Nix seems really good so far! Void Winnower needs to see some more play before I decide if it is tricky enough to accomplish anything!
Other cards I am looking at include Breaker of Armies and Blighted Fen
