The idea here is simple:
Every deck no matter the type has 1 major weakness:
They all need mana to function
This deck attacks your opponent's mana sources directly, and it does so more aggressively and with more control and speed than typical land destruction decks.
Mana Deniers
Mind Bend
1 drop Instant speed mana denial.
Turn their Swamp into a useless Mountain
Make Blood Moon turn all their non basics into Islands if you're playing a red deck.
Dismantle cards with "protection" from a color, change devotion/chroma cards like Gray Merchant of Asphodel be all about their devotion to white, or
Primalcrux
to be all about how many blue mana symbols their permanents have. (although ideally they'll never get anywhere near that level of mana to be able to cast those cards in the first place)
Generally, screw with their deck to stop or alter their game plan. Mainly to be used as a mana denial card, but so many other uses for it as well
Convincing Mirage
Not as versatile as Mind Bend, but exactly what we want to be using those spells for anyway with this deck. The only downside is it can be removed.
Sowing Salt
Removes land that
Mind Bend
and
Spectral Shift
can't touch
Blood Moon
Lock out their basics with the other spells, then their nonbasics with this one. Then use
Mind Bend
to turn their lands into whatever you'd like them to be.
Magus of the Moon
Same as Blood Moon but easier to remove
Creatures
Frost Titan
great finisher, use its ability to keep a land locked down
Snapcaster Mage
easy inclusion in this nearly creatureless deck
Fulminator Mage
3cc land destruction that can also function as a cheap blocker and be sac'd at instant speed
Other spells
Isochron Scepter
More or less an artifact version of Snapcaster Mage, but you get to copy the desired spell every turn if need be.
Lightning Bolt
Most efficient burn/creature/planeswalker removal spell ever printed
Izzet Charm
Burn away a creature, or counter a spell, or draw some new cards, and repeat with sceptor
Remand
Counter their spells, repeat with sceptor, destroy lands and stop them from even casting it again. Draw a card every time.
sideboard
This deck matches well against most decks. If you can start off strong with some mana denial on turn 1 or 2, you can probably get the win. You'll definitely take some licks, but if you can stall them long enough to lock them out of their mana pool (usually happens around turn 4), then you're golden.
Trouble decks include tokens and infect, two pretty big parts of the meta right now. for tokens, swap in Slagstorm for
Convincing Mirage
, for infect, swap in more Remand and Spellskite to counter/steal their pump spells, and maybe more removal.
