Great deck! maybe add in Emeria sheperd to your side deck for when your facing a removal heavy deck to keep getting your angels back.

MagicalShrek I feel that Always Watching is a cornerstone in the deck. It moves many creatures out of range of many of the removal spells that are common. Also the interaction with Tamiyo, Field Researcher is great. Give two creatures (even the small first strike creatures) the plus ability, attack and draw two cards, then since they have vigilance your opponent can't attack without giving you more cards. The interaction with Archangel of Tithes and Dragonlord Ojutai is another reason for it. I see the need for counter spells in some match ups (mono-black control comes to mind). That is why I have them in the sideboard. Thanks for your feedback though, it is much appreciated!

I honestly feel like running 3x Negate over 3x Clash of Wills is viable. It's much more valuable later on, and this meta is OVERRUN with amazing spells and planeswalkers. Plus, since you're playing a lot of fliers and lifelinkers, a lot of the time the other player's only way to take back the game is to draw their flying removal-- if you Negate that, you'll win.

You could swap them and bring in the Clash of Wills for other midrange/tempo decks that need to play on curve, where you're the control deck not the aggressor.

I love the idea and flavor though, and Always Watching decks feel nasty. Feel free to check out my own angels/Brisela deck-- it's more Bant and less Angels, but you might like! Brisela is the best name they could come up with??

I love how the deck is like old Esper dragons with the high cost creatures with the low cost spells to drag the game out! awesome idea. I definitely think Negate is way better, or maybe Scatter to the Winds?

abby315 and CinnaToastKrunch I think you are both right. Since I switched it up a little and brought the counter spells in main-board, the negate is better. I play-tested last night against my brothers mono-black control that he is working on for EMN and a couple of times I almost lost because I had a clash of wills that I could not use because he had too much mana. Switching them now.

This deck looks actually legit, which makes me happy. Would not want to get to turns 5 and 6 against this.

The deck looks great. Just wondering, how consistent is the mana base when you test it? I took it for a test run, seemed like I was getting 1) flooded, 2) coming in tapped, and 3) mana screwed (color). Also felt like it needs some kind of card draw. I did see that you were/are contiplating anticipate. I might try out those in the spot as declaration in stone. Move declaration in stone to the sideboard. Or maybe cut 1 declaration and 2 negates for 3 anticipate. Or some kind of combo of this to make room. Maybe even cut back on the dromoka's commands. You got the room, just trying to figure out the right combo. I really like the direction this goes. Nice job.

kickerv, mana hasn't been a huge issue for me at this point, not perfect but also not a huge issue. I am changing the deck around for a few other reasons and this will change the mana base. So far the deck has struggled against very fast aggro. Check out the update above and what has changed!!! I am very excited about these new changes and I think it makes the deck very legit!

At this point I am unsure about splashing green just for Tamiyo, Field Researcher. I will play test and see how the mana base is working out. I absolutely love the power, tempo and potential card advantage. Her interaction in this deck is great, but splashing another color for one card seems risky. Any opinion on this would be welcome.

July 17, 2016 11:13 p.m.

there are dual lands that can help with this as you may already know. it is risky and if it were me I would try and find another planeswalker that compliments the deck. maybe even Narset Transcendent for rebounding your counter spells. look for the spells you need, and if ult gets off you have control

I would have to agree that splashing green just for Tamiyo may not be the best for this build, also, I feel Narset doesn't have a home in this build either. She is more for the control types of builds. This build doesn't really have a "control" feel. If your looking to put a planeswalker into this build, may I suggest Jace, Unraveler of Secrets. Being able to scry then draw seems like a good filter to get what your looking for and bouncing an oppenents creatures seems pretty good. Not to sure why you took the white knight out. He seemed really good as an early blocker and if you got always watching out turn 3 white knight is a serious beater smashing creatures or a really good blocker late game. I also feel like you need some kind of ramp to get to a possible turn 3 archangel of tithes, or even Gisela and Bruna combo. I would try it without Dragonlord Ojutai and put in 4 white knights, take out tamiyo and put in Jace, Unraveler of Secerets, drop negate down to 2. This puts you at 61 cards i think, but ai have seen it where people have won a GP with 63 or even 64 card main decks.

I was just thinking, I don't know what your local meta is like, but Knight of the White Orchid could be a good sideboard card against those ramp decks. I am sure there will be a bunch either trying to ramp into emrakul or world breaker or something like that. I know in my local meta, there is atleast 2 or 3 ramp decks floating around.

I took Knight of the White Orchid out because I felt the synergy of the other creatures was better. Also, with the tempo/control build the ramp wasn't as important as it was in the original build.

Have you thought about Reflector Mage. Being able to set your oppenents creature back a whole turn seems pretty good tempo and you get a 3/2 body out of it. Just an idea.

Sorry my bad, Reflector Mage is a 2/3. I was thinking of Thalia, Heretic Cathar.

Reflector Mage is another definite possibility. I am doing a 3+ hour play test session tonight against multiple decks and will have some results and changes posted by tomorrow.

I find that Tamiyo is a kind of "win-more" card in the decks I've seen so far. Not only that but in this deck you're splashing an entire color, potentially screwing up your mana in the process, just play her. Imo, take out the tamiyo + 1 Archangel of Tithes and put in 3 reflector mage instead. Your mana is better, your curve is better, your cmc is better and if you're in trouble a reflector mage can probably do quite a bit more for you than tamiyo in the moment.

Good points on the keeping of Tamiyo in the deck. After play testing last night she was awesome but most of the time was a "win more". Dropping to two colors I feel would allow me to go to 24 lands total which would let me put the Reflectors in for just dropping the Tamiyo.

It really is unfortunate that we're stuck using Anticipate. I wish there were more interesting card draw options in standard...

I've been doing some playtesting on cockatrice and I think you should really run Declaration in Stone in the main. Having the ability to remove multiple creatures / tokens is extremely good in the meta.
