Mono black is a hard deck to get down straight. You can make a heavy theme to push your deck in a direction, but solely focusing on good stuff gives you a lot of room to play with. Over the years, this deck has evolved and split off into several lists, but the current powerhouse in EDH is K'rrik. Being able to convert all black costs in your deck to phyrexian mana is insanely powerful. You might think this will kill you quickly, but K'rrik has lifelink and gets big fast, so you can rebound that lost life. However, Yawgmoth is a mono-black monster. He does everything you want: killing stuff/enabling undying, sac outlet, draw, proliferate, discard, and paying life (if you're into that sort of thing). He's always a good play and will only net you value. Board wipe? Just sac your board to draw a ton and possibly get more benefits out of cards like Grave Pact, Blood Artist, etc. Mikaeus, the Unhallowed is one of my favorite magic cars and acts as a secret commander in the deck. he would be at the helm but he's just too slow and clunky and the deck ends up relying on him. Go nuts living the essence of black; losing life, sacrifice, reanimation, draw and discard. Suggestions are appreciated and I'm trying to make a massive maybe board of really good black cards that might help steer someone in the direction they want to go for their mono-black EDH.
