Before anyone says it, there is no ban list for this particular format, so you can use banned cards as long as they are within budget (for example I was really tempted to use Braids, Cabal Minion as a commander).

Please don't tell me 2 of my cards are illegal, I know.

btw, 2 of your cards are illegal. Nice deck though. +1

Worldslayer - hate that card. Just nasty.

For $0.24 Magosi, the Waterveil is a must.

Why is it a must? It doesn't really combo with anything, unless I am missing something. I mean I have it in my

deck-large:oloros-little-prison-prison-build

deck, but it can actually combo in there (a few ways).

Yeah, just for combo purposes and added defense if your opponent tries to time something with your Taniwha . You do have sufficient countermagic though.

What about Sundial of the Infinite for $0.36? Just end your turn when your stuff is about to phase out.

That's an interesting idea...

I'll have to see if I can fit in Sundial of the Infinite (it's $0.15 btw, use the low price on tcgplayer for everything other than the commander). Any other suggestions like possible cuts?

You'll have to sell me on Magosi, the Waterveil , because I just can't see its usefulness. Even Sundial of the Infinite is a bit limited, because if I am saving my lands I need to activate it before my lands phase out (which means during my upkeep). That means I can't attack or do anything other than instants. However, Sundial of the Infinite could possibly be worth it because it lets me stay in control mode, or becomes a psuedo Fog if I have some mana rock out to pay for it and they pull some blocking/instant shenanigans. I'll have to think about it for a bit, whether it is worth it or not.

A land I have considered is Halimar Depths at $0.18. However, that's a lot of potential budget to invest into something that has a minimal impact on the deck.

Magosi, the Waterveil seems perfect for this deck since you're only running 5 creatures & you won't miss out on much combat. Usually, it seems, you'll be sitting on counterspells anyway. What is the benefit of having Savor the Moment ?

With the sundial out you'll always have Taniwha on the field at least to block.

I've always been a fan of Halimar Depths . It goes in all of my blue EDH decks (though none are budgeted).

Savor the Moment is basically Rampant Growth with the added line "draw a card" provided I have/draw a land card. That's pretty freaking awesome (it comes out untapped meaning my spell only costs 2 mana basically).

I've play tested against this deck a few times now and it is really annoying. Cards like Mana Breach and Overburden can drag games on forever. But, your only win cons involve attacking with Taniwha , and a few instant kill spells prolong that possibility for a long time. Try Elixir of Immortality ($0.10) to make sure the turn-by-turn mill goes your way.

Truthfully, my win-cons are pretty much tutor for Sunder , Worldslayer , or Sway of the Stars with either Long-Term Plans or Noble Benefactor . That means I just stall until I draw one of 5 cards, which this deck is pretty good at. If I can resolve any of those 3 cards, it is pretty much game over.

I mean if removal becomes a major issue (I haven't playtested this a whole lot yet) I can always make room for something like Neurok Stealthsuit at $0.06, Alexi's Cloak at $0.04, and Robe of Mirrors at $0.05 to deal with that (I'd make room in that order, there's a few other more expensive options too). I think that I would usually prefer a counterspell to one of those though, I'll have to play it a bit and see.

Do the four creatures I'd want to protect (everyone but Noble Benefactor ) and the potential general protection justify Neurok Stealthsuit , or will it be a dead card in my hand more often than not. I will play around with it a bit and see if I like it or not.

Went to cut a card that I already cut (earlier) to make room for the stealthsuit for a bit of playtesting and realized the deck listed here wasn't my most recent updated version...

Sorry about that! The deck should be up to date now lol. Also checked my math on the budget of deck and found out I have an entire $0.15 to work with!

Cards I'm currently considering are:

Neurok Stealthsuit , Dream Tides , Mana Leak , Sky Diamond , Mitotic Manipulation , Delay , Dismiss , and maybe even Psychic Vortex as another combo card with Taniwha although it doesn't win the game outright.
