Shout outs to twitchisme123 for his sweet 5-0 Modern decklist, which this list is heavily based off of. This list caught my eye, as much of the deck used dirt cheap cards such as Filigree Familiar and good ol' Mulldrifter. Elder Deep-Fiend is a fantastic card you can pick up for less than a quarter as a top end threat, and can be played turn 4 with no tron lands by sacrificing a Circuit Mender or Trophy Mage using the emerge cost. We don't get to run 2x Mindslaver in our deck due to price, so in it's place we have Trading Post and another Myr Battlesphere. Honestly I may cut a Battlesphere for another Trading Post as it's been very strong in testing.

Regarding the maybeboard, I like the idea of being able to fetch up a Mimic Vat as insurance for a resolved Elder Deep-Fiend and a way to generate further value off of your creatures, in testing it just felt win more. Regardless, if you'd like to run it: -1 Myr Battlesphere -1 Circuit Mender +1 Trophy Mage +1 Mimic Vat

Regarding how this deck was assembled for under $10: I managed to pick up a playset of Expedition Map for around 45 cents and the Tron lands for under 25 cents each each back when they were reprinted in double masters. The deck needs Expedition Map to function but running Impulse as a budget alternative would be an okay choice.
