Sideboard

There's so much to say about this deck and where it stands in the meta, particularly the concept of forcing your opponents to search their libraries. But for now, we'll just go into some card choices.

Recently there have been very premium printings for these effects; particularly Field of Ruin and Scheming Symmetry. No more of this "may search your library" nonsense that had me playing Ghost Quarter and Path to Exile previously. Now we force them to search and hit them with Archive Trap.

Another premium addition to the deck is Mission Briefing because, though it acts as a snapcaster, it digs deeper by surveilling which is invaluable in a deck that is, in essence, an iteration of burn and can run out of gas. A particularly cute mini-combo is to Scheming Symmetry an Archive Trap on top and then use a Visions of Beyond or Mission Briefing to access the trap.

Finally, we have three new additions to the deck with the release of Throne of Eldraine: Into the Story, Mystic Sanctuary, and the all-time best addition us mill players could ever hope for, Drown in the Loch.

Drown in the Loch answers so many problems mill decks face. It's 2 CMC cost, along with having to put cards in our opponent's graveyard >.>..., along with the variable X CMC of creatures it can hit make it far more playable than Fatal Push. AND it acts as a hard counter, provided their graveyard is full. There's no overstating how impactful this card will be in making mill a more competitive deck, note: maybe not tier ranked/top 8 everywhere modern kind of competitive, but certainly able to tussle with all the other unfair things people do in modern. And yes... this deck does try to play unfairly by forcing our opponents to search their libraries and stripping them of resources, but if Gifts Storm is no longer viable enough as a deck in this meta, then we've just gotta mill kill 'em.
