Well we don't want too many creatures, and with the speed of this deck the mana ramp isn't very necessary

Singleton Cathedral of War might be good here as a cheap form of permanent with exalted.

That actually doesn't seem like a bad idea, thanks!

I would do Rancor over Unnatural Predation . Bigger buff, trample, & reusable.

Great deck! +1 from me. I ordered the cards for this deck right when I saw it. Props to you. :)

AWESOME! +1!!

I've been thinking of making an infect deck, but just cannot afford right now to make another deck. Your listing is perfect!! I can have an infect deck really cheap and change it from time to time! Kudos to you!

Have you considered Revenge of the Hunted ?

I guess the Miracle mechanic makes the deck less consistent (you don't want to draw it until T2 and it is useless in an opening hand), but it would keep budget and, unless I am mistaken, without Rancor there is no trample in the current version?

kxc999, I believe you asked me on Might of Old Krosa in my wall and you were refering to this thread; it has taken me a while to find it.

I did not suggest Might of Old Krosa in my last comment as I believe past comments in this deck mentioned it would depart from this deck ultra-low-budget focus, just like the author recommended Rancor and Inkmoth Nexus warning it would totally slash the "10 USD Infect" Tag.

For a non-ultra-low budget (yet reasonably budget for Modern) mono-green Infect, I recommend checking my own list, 10 Neurotoxins (Green Infect), my recommendations would naturally evolve towards said listing. It has proven quite successful at my LGS.

Might of Old Krosa is very useful in mono-green Infect, in spite of it having to be cast before combat for the +4/+4: Yes, you are warning the opponent you are swinging for a lot of damage, but he has no way to know if you are also casting instant pump spells after the declare attackers or blockers phase, or you just want to try to deal 5-6 damage that turn for tempo without going lethal (remember it is very difficult to remove poison counters without a narrow dedicated anti-Infect sideboard, which would prove totally crap against the rest of the meta). So I don't see why the opponent would assume you are going for lethal just by casting a +4/+4 Might and so would decide to respond to it (removal, counters, etc) instead of saving a spell. If I were playing against Infect I would use asap whatever ressource I have in hand, 10 poison counters come really fast and any opponent should be really scared to play against Infect...

So, just take my last comment and swap the 3x Llanowar Augur for 3x Might of Old Krosa ; you can also try swapping 1 Forest for the fourth copy and run 19 lands.

Hope I answered your question...

Is this deck still competitive? I always wanted a Infect Deck.

I dont care what anyone says about gitaxian probe that card is the bomb. I have kept a no land hand with 2 probes and pulled one off my first probe and saw he had spot removal so i knew to keep up protection mana.

Quick note for people buying this list as a springboard to slowly upgrade the list to a more competitive Infect deck:

  • Monogreen Infect works (it might not win competitive Modern tourneys, but it CAN win FNMs), and is fun to play. This list is an amazing attempt at entering Modern with a reasonable deck (and an absurdly low rate of price/competitiveness), able to steal some matches at FNM (unless your LGS is pro territory, full of tier 1 decks and very experienced Spike players), and a good starting point for upgrading to a real competitive Infect deck.

  • Before upgrading this list, I would recommend swapping the 2x Giant Growth for 2x Become Immense. I don't think budget will suffer, and the latter is far more devastating. It is an instant win if Wild Defiance is in play and you attack with an innocent Glistener Elf which goes unblocked for an apparent 1 poison counter. Even without Wild Defiance it will deal 7 poison counters, pressuring the opponent near lethal, if not finishing the duel.

  • As the author mentions, 4x Inkmoth Nexus, and 4x Rancor should be the next non-budget upgrades, then 2x Pendelhaven, then 3-4x Gitaxian Probe, and then 2-4x Birds of Paradise as a placeholder for Noble Hierarch. I do NOT advise purchasing Might of Old Krosa, especially if on a tight budget, as it is a +2/+2 which sometimes can be a +4/+4 but chances are the opponent will most surely remove the creature if you play Might of Old Krosa for the +4/+4 before combat... Rancor (which trades similarly to Might) is far more necessary for trample in monogreen.

Kudos again to the author for this list which got me introduced in Infect, and is a lot of fun to play...

I know it's not super budget. But a splash blue for Gitaxian Probe is super effective.

Felixlives says... #17

The perk of gitaxian probe is its free and any color I would not splash blue for it even if adding it honestly

May 21, 2015 11:10 p.m.

Nixin72 says... #18

Yea, you always pay 2 life for probe, but technically it's still adding a blue colour identity to the deck. Which is why I say splash. I don't suggest adding blue sources of mana, that would defeat the purpose of a budget deck.

A turn 2 win would be easy for this deck. Turn 1 Glistener Elf, then turn 2 Groundswell Giant Growth and then pay two life for Mutagenic Growth. Bam. 10 poison counters.

Gotta watch out for that turn 2 path to exile. From my experience piloting infect in a competitive meta it's always better to play cautiously. I might play as aggressively game one but once you find out what your playing and sideboard keep in mind what they will side In against you. Playing a creature t2 to have protection mana is probably the smartest game plan.

Hey guyys! Should I have a splash of blue to put 4 Aqueous Form instead of Unnatural Predation?

December 5, 2015 3:50 p.m.

The_Squirrel says... #22

Distortion Strike is better than Aqueous Form. The +1 can be the difference, and you shouldn't need it more than 2 turns. Also, Gitaxian Probe is great in this type of deck. You ought to add them if they fit your budget. Of course Blighted Agent is the best reason to add blue.

December 5, 2015 4:40 p.m.

Ok thanks... Let's suppose that I add blue... I put 4 Distortion Strike and 3 Blighted Agent instead of Necropede...How many islands should I put in?

December 5, 2015 5:44 p.m.

Felixlives says... #24

If that is all your adding for blue I'd say 5-7 but without any mana fixing it's really hard. I mean even evolving wilds or guild gates are better than no mama fixing. It's hard to multi color modern decks on a budget

December 6, 2015 4:46 a.m.

A playset of Yavimaya Coast and 3 islands? You think it's ok?
