Idea for a simic midrange deck for the upcoming standard focused on getting creatures on the board, and growing them/getting +1/+1 counter value off them either via adapt or a
Hadana's Climb
. I really liked
Biogenic Ooze
and
Hydroid Krasis
out of the new set as creatures that reward you for going big as mana sinks in the late game, that are still ok on earlier on in the game as well.
Incubation Druid
helps us get there, and the curve of that into
Hadana's Climb
to drop another druid or
Growth-Chamber Guardian
. Then next turn we have access to 7 mana with 4 lands and the druid, or if we get the dream of playing another druid turn 3, we can put a counter on the second one with Hadana's Climb to get a whopping 10 mana on turn 4 post-combat phase, enough for an 8/8
Hydroid Krasis
and 4 cards or a
Biogenic Ooze
with enough mana to immediately pump out another ooze.
Getting out of magical christmas land, the rest of the deck is just good value in general with
Jadelight Ranger
being good card selection/land draw,
Zegana, Utopian Speaker
for card draw and help against tokens and chump blockers,
Vivien Reid
to get more creatures and lands from our deck, as well as help against the multitude of enchantments that are sure to show up after RNA is launched,
Frilled Mystic
to hold up against control's sweepers and teferis (not sure if I want all 4 but it's something I want to try out), and
Incubation // Incongruity
for more creature selection should I need it and exile removal for problematic creatures in a pinch.
As for the sideboard, I'm still not that great at making them but there is
Carnage Tyrant
,
Nezahal, Primal Tide
, and
Negate
against control. card: Repudiate / Replicate (RNA) also for teching against planeswalker heavy control and any troublesome triggers in the format (looking at you
Ravenous Chupacabra
), with a bonus of being able to copy my creatures should that come up.
Reclamation Sage
for more help in dealing with enchantments and artifacts; and
Deathgorge Scavenger
for graveyard hate, as well as incidental lifegain against creature heavy aggro decks.
I also liked
Mesmerizing Benthid
from the new set, especially if the format is filled with creature/removal heavy decks, making it hard for them to attack in as well as giving a big, hard to interact with blocker. Not sure if this would be a good deck for it though, perhaps a simic quasiduplicate deck though...
Can't wait to test this out on Arena to see if it's worth building IRL, if you have any comments or suggestions leave a comment! Thanks!
