SlappyBob I've got Wrath of God in the sideboard for matchups which may get out of control, so I'm not sure there's room for the Pontiff. Cool suggestion though!

I have a lot of love for Batwing Brume, unfortunate that it isn't as useful now splinter twin is gone.

+1 for something different that actually looks like it would do well. My brews don't fair too well

Love Orzhov, love this deck. Very creative, and it looks fun. The only deck it may completely fall flat against, however, is burn. You have no mainboard way to deal with their damage, so I suppose Leyline and Duress are there for games 2 and 3, no? Anyways, +1 from me, I love it :D

Midexin: Thanks! Burn is definitely the toughest matchup I've been facing on a somewhat regular basis and you nailed it with the sideboard options. Nyx-Fleece Ram can sometimes slow them down a bit game 1 but it's definitely a better matchup in games 2 and 3.

For burn I like to put 2 Dawn Charm in my sideboard it helps against an army a burn and you can save a Desecration Demon or Divinity Of Pride if needed. hope this helps :)

I notice you lose a lot of life with cards like Phyrexian Arena. This doesn't work that well with Divinity of Pride... I would add more creatures with lifelink like Vampire Nighthawk or Serra Ascendant.

Jacob2586: Dawn Charm and Batwing Brume are just about always in rotation in my physical deck so great suggestion! I can never decide which I like more so I kinda play which ever I feel like for the day.

Memphismaymagic5: I really haven't had any issues with life loss from Phyrexian Arena due to other cards I have in the deck such as Nyx-Fleece Ram and Souls of the Faultless (Blind Obedience as well to a lesser extent). I really like both of the cards you mentioned, but Serra Ascendant is actually more difficult to activate then Divinity of Pride so I doubt they'll make it in.

I think you should Baneslayer for something else. I've been playing Mardu control for a bit now running 1 each of Obzedat, Ghost Council, Blood Baron of Vizkopa, and Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, and have been loving that split. Granted, I'm also running Nahiri, the Harbinger, which you don't have access to, but I still think Blood Baron is better than Baneslayer because the protection from black and white means you dodge basically all the removal in the format (double Bolt aside), making it the best option against BGx and other removal-heavy grindy decks. Kalitas comes down 1 turn sooner than Baneslayer and Blood Baron so it can gain life 1 turn sooner, and the exiling clause is a fantastic answer to Podless. This makes it the best option when you are facing the faster decks in the format. Obzedaddy is the fastest clock and gives you immediate life swing. It is the best option against Tron and combo decks when you need to win fast, which looks like a miserable matchup for this deck.

So each of those cards has a set of matchups for when it's the best option; I'd consider running some combination of them to maximize this deck's potential.

Maybe this was addressed in previous comments, so I'm sorry if this is a repeat, but why no fetch lands?

SlappyBob Honestly, it's only a budget issue. The Fetid Heaths wouldn't be in this deck either if it weren't for my buddy loaning them to me.

This deck looks dirty AF. I love it. My favorite kind of control. +1 good sir.

Baneslayer comes with Flying for free and has first strike.

Both are great cards, but Baneslayer's probably a little bit better against a wider variety of decks. I've always been a fan of seeing Blood Baron in the sideboard, though. It wrecks Junk/Jund.

I get the flying and first strike for free. And I'm not entirely sold on one over the other for certain. However, the Blood Baron protects itself better, which I think is worth noting and testing.

AT23 I've definitely played around with the Baron in the past as well as Divinity of Pride and even Desecration Demon. After playing TONS of games with this deck, the angel seems to be the best fit IMO. I really like the idea of playing him out of the sideboard though so thanks for that idea zandl!

i feel like Batwing Brume makes more sense as a sideboard card against tokens. main board you have a lot of removal and discard to the point where they really shouldn't have too many creatures that require you to want to use brume. i think the spot could be filled by another go for the throat (have you tried Victim of Night? not much harder to cast in you deck but it's not useless against affinity). that would leave 2 more spots to fill. i think you could use a few lower costed creatures to help keep yourself a protected and to apply pressure when needed (lets face it we can't always resolve Baneslayer Angel and see it live to attack as much as we'd love to) so i'd suggest something like Tithe Drinker. can hit for a few points early game if the field is open. you can use it to extort when you have the extra mana for it to slowly leach your opponent out. it can also trade with a few creatures if not at least providing another body to block with besides faultless.

also you may want to update your description. it still talks about Blind Obedience

aholder7: Love the idea of Tithe Drinker. Batwing Brume is a fun card to play with but I can definitely see tithe drinker actually making the deck more consistent. I've actually already got a playset of the drinkers so I'll give it a shot. Also, thanks for the heads up on the description!

I would be wary of running go for the throat. It's an excellent removal spell, but affinity/robots makes it cry on the playground. Maybe affinity is not present in your local area, but you should keep in mind that it exists.

I'd also definitely include some kind of hate for graveyard-based strategies in your sideboard. Without it, games vs dredge and similar decks turn sour pretty fast.

Nice deck overall. I'm glad to see orzhov making a comeback. :)

I see you added athreos, but with only a few other creatures to recur I feel like he might be under utilized. I mean he costs 3 mana so you want a good 3 manas worth of ability out of him. So over the course of the game if you have two creatures die and the opponent just pays life. You essentially used lightning bolt twice. That's not terrible but I don't think you're looking to bolt people twice. You're looking to control them a bit more and cause some suffering. Let's imagine the opposite. You have 2 creatures die and they let you bring both back to hand. That's basically Morbid Plunder which is not played because most people don't seem to find that effect worth 3 mana. Add in that your opponent gets to choose which ever option works best for them. Not great if you only proc him twice or even three times. You want to be abusing him when you play. You want things dying left and right on your field so that the opponent constantly has to make tough choices.
