@SynergyBuild: Hey thanks for the upvote! I'm still in the process of tweaking my landbase and would definitely consider those lands especially mana confluence/city of brass.

looks like you can produce lots of mana. Sadistic Sacrament perhaps? Also since you have a thievery build maybe consider Grip of Phyresis, and Corrupted Conscience. great deck. +1'ed

got to thinking Jester's Cap would be a very grixis/bolas thing to do to opponents.

ohmless: Corrupted Conscience sounds spicy! Stealing a fatty and then swinging to kill its owner with infect is something I can see Bolas do. If I do run Jester's Cap I would need Academy Ruins and even consider putting Oblivion Stone back in my deck. Great suggestions...will definitely test them out!

Nice decklist ! Here are two cards that fit the theme of your deck perfectly : Recoil (obviously) and Consign / Oblivion.

This is pretty sweet! I was just thinking about a similar concept, but wanted to test Disinformation Campaign in it as well, and build around Surveil a bit. The truest bouncy house!
Have you considered running Sire Of Insanity in your list? At a hefty price point, Chains of Mephistopheles would also go wonderfully, pairing with Anvil of Bogardan for a hand-size lock that makes opponents permanently hell-bent if they get there!
I'm planning to run Bedlam Reveler and The Flame of Keld as additional ways of getting myself hell-bent or at 4 cards or less for Noetic Scales, and am tempted to play Ensnaring Bridge as well. Not really 100% sure yet on the exact slots, I've got piles of cards on the table that need to be trimmed to make the deck still lol
Nice deck, I will definitely be taking some inspiration from it!

Hyena34 Those are pretty spicy cards, will look into testing it. Thanks!
Nerve_Atk Great ideas! I've tested out Sire Of Insanity but since my deck runs on having constant recurring Ghostly Flicker/Evacuation lock that card is kinda like a double edged sword as it makes me discard my key engine pieces. It might work in other discard builds for sure. I do run Notion Thief which combos with Anvil of Bogardan in a similar way as Chains of Mephistopheles.

Have you considered effects like Necrogen Mists, Oppression, Bottomless Pit, Words of Waste, Liliana of the Veil, and Chains of Mephistopheles for more recurring discard?
Also congrats on getting the number one position on the top decks list on the homepage! :)

DangoDaikazoku of course you'd recommend those xD
Honestly I really recommend Words of Waste out of those ten-fold, think of the value with Geth's Grimoire or Waste Not ;) They discard all discard one, you get 3 draw triggers, pay 3, they all discard 3, you draw 9, now 1 draw turned into a net 18 cards over your opponents at the cost of or with Waste Not as long as you draw a couple cards you can empty their hands, get a ton of mana, and a couple cards, and a horde of zombies xD

SynergyBuild What can I say? I'm a sucker for static and recurring discard haha.

DangoDaikazoku: I've tested out Oppression in my initial list but it kinda is a nonbo with the constant Ghostly Flicker lock I'm trying to get. Bottomless Pit is the same deal, randomly discarding into one of my key bounce spells is more detrimental than disruption. I do like the idea of either Necrogen Mists or Liliana of the Veil...need to start finding spaces for them. Chains is unfortunately too expensive for me but will definitely be a strong consideration once I've saved enough to get one. Thanks! :)

+1. Nice deck idea.
I'm thinking of building a discard themed deck too in Grixis colors and brew up some funky unconventional builds and chanced upon your decklist.
What do you think of Kess, Dissident Mage to helm such a deck?
January 6, 2019 9:56 p.m.
Cloudius: My form of recursion comes from Archaeomancer and I don't think Kess would contribute much to my recursion package since he exiles. Thanks for the upvote!

Is Conjurer's Closet something you've ever thought of running in this? I feel like it would allow for some prime ETB effects if not taken care of quickly.
March 6, 2019 10:37 p.m.
UnevenAire: That might be something worth testing out especially since it works with Nicol Bolas.

Hey! Your deck inspired me to build something very similar. I am yet to test mine out. I would love to know how well your deck performs?
April 9, 2019 10:18 a.m.
evwatkins: The deck performs pretty well but is mostly dependent on ramping enough early game. Once I get my engine going is usually when I play archenemy.

How reliably do you get planeswalker ultimates in this deck? I see a low creature count so I'm kind of skeptical that you can protect a planeswalker solely on control pieces.
June 17, 2019 7:27 p.m.
Solonqo: The strategy of the deck doesn't go all into getting my PW to ultimate. I want to control my opponent's stuff as well as resetting the board with boardwipes if things become unmanageable. Ultimately, I want to assemble the kefnet infinite turns combo to end the game and getting my planeswalker to ultimate usually is a nice bonus.
June 17, 2019 7:49 p.m.
Yeah I just thought that a Bolas themed deck would want to get some tasty ultimates out especially since some of them just hand you the game.
June 18, 2019 7:58 a.m.
Solonqo: Having the main plan to get your planeswalkers to ultimate as a win con is never a reliable or a good strategy in edh since it's such a creature-centric and removal heavy format. How the combo works is with God-Eternal Kefnet and Jace, the Mind Sculptor or Scroll Rack in play, I will put Time Warp back on top of my library. On my upkeep, kefnet's spell duplication ability will trigger and I will reveal Time Warp in which I will cast the kefnet copy and put the real one back in my hand. Repeat ad nauseaum.

Wanted to say that I love the deck. The whole idea about it is sweet and Nicol Bolas is the best character in magic. So I have been wanting to build my own Nicol Bolas deck, especially with recent new cards and finding this was perfect. I have made some changes for my own personal variation/playgroup but ultimately do love the deck. What do you think of Bolas's Citadel ? In my current play testing, I love the card and it fits on theme with the deck of being nicol bolas. May not steal anything, but casting stuff for life instead of mana is really good. Either way, just wanted to say that I think you did a fantastic job with the deck and keep at it. I look forward to seeing more updates on this for the future.

+1 for any grixis deck that drops Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh and his enemy Ugin, the Spirit Dragon!
Would you consider Tarnished Citadel, Mana Confluence, City of Brass, Forbidden Orchard, Exotic Orchard, or any of the other 5 color lands?
