Wanted to try building a deck around an alternate win-con that wasn't going to rotate when Ixalan came out (RIP
Hedron Alignment
and
Triskaidekaphobia
). Approach of the Second Sun already has a hype AF deck built around it that took Roman Fusco to a 5th place finish at the SCG standard classic in Syracuse, so I figured I'd try building around the other one, Mechanized Production.
At first, I wanted to try it with Clue tokens, but there aren't a lot of good producers outside of
Thraben Inspector
and Tireless Tracker. While both are tried and true, I feel like the Human decks of yesteryear are just better, and the deck is still standard playable. There are other decent Clue producers, but they just don't have as much oomph, so that left me with Servos.
Sram's Expertise and Servo Exhibition immediately jumped out as the best Servo token producers and a great little combo. 5 Servos in one turn for with a Baral, Chief of Compliance on the field is hilarious. Throw in Selfless Spirit to protect the Servos from enemy boardwipes and your own Fumigates, and the rest of the deck basically builds itself. Honestly, it's just UW Approach with Mechanized Production instead of Approach of the Second Sun. The Approach deck already has tournament results and is without a doubt better, but you can cut a few dozen dollars/TIX with this build and just have fun dumping a ridiculous amount of Servo tokens onto the field turn after turn until you win with Mechanized Production.
I've already considered an build and I just don't think it's worth it, especially with being in the cost for Sram's Expertise and Fumigate. is definitely a no-go, there really aren't any good Servo token makers in besides Marionette Master and you need counter spells. could be okay, but you're not going to get the ridiculous T3 5 Servo token combo from Baral, Chief of Compliance + Servo Exhibition + Sram's Expertise
.
I'm always open to suggestions to make the deck better. Again, it's really just a cheaper version of UW Approach with a different win-con, so it's probably not going to Top 8 any tourneys, but casting spells for cheap with Baral and spamming the board with Servos is pretty fun. I haven't playtested it against any decks yet, but go-fishing had me at a pretty consistent T9 win, so all that's left is to play some games and see what works and what doesn't, make some changes, and all that.
Thanks for checking it out! :D
