Nice deck, here are my suggestions

Goblin Guide - Stronger than Vexing Devil . Probably better than Kird Ape and Loam Lion as well, due to haste.

Tarmogoyf - Assuming you don't have him because of his ridiculous price tag.

Domri Rade - Cheaper to cast than Ajani and fits your deck better.

Qasali Pridemage Is good enough to possibly go in your main deck. You don't have any 2-drop creatures currently.

If you go with Domri, I'd up your creature count a bit and drop Lightning Helix and/or Boros Charm.

Lands:I'm assuming you don't have access to fetch lands. They would help the most, but i'll include other suggestions:

Non-Budget:Grove of the Burnwillows , Horizon Canopy , Arid Mesa

Budget friendly:Razorverge Thicket , Copperline Gorge , Clifftop Retreat

you could also add 2 or so manlandsRaging Ravine , Stirring Wildwood

I hope this helped!

I'll have to try Goblin Guide in replace for Vexing Devil . the reason being is i only had the devil and the tournament i was in started in 5minutes ish. lol

Tarmogoyf is something i'll get eventually he's just not on my priority list.

With the planeswalker position i'm not for sure if i want to put Ajani, Caller of the Pride or Domri Rade in his place.

I like Qasali Pridemage but i don't know what to take out of the deck for him. I would prefer to take out another creature as i like the amount of creature to burn in the deck for the situations i've met with so far.

As for lands go, i will eventually get the fetch lands it's just going to take me a bit of time to get. I like the Stirring Wildwood so that might be something i'll throw into the deck.

Btw how do you feel on these cards for the deck? Figure of Destiny and Woolly Thoctar

You're at the crossroad that every budget Zoo player is at: No Tarmogoyf s, and no fetchlands to make a 5-color tribal zoo deck (Tribal Flames and Might of Alara ), OR Tarmogoyf s, no Noble Hierarch s and no fetchlands to use Knight of the Reliquary . In other words, you don't have the right tools to make either Small Zoo nor Big Zoo.

Keep in mind that Zoo is all about having the BEST creature at every CMC to out-class your opponent. Since you can't do this, what are your options?

(1) Sacrifice this ideal to take on a much more aggressive stance (this appears to be your approach)

(2) Try to introduce shenanigans to throw off your opponent (random stuff like Faithless looting, Vengevine, etc. probably not the best approach)

(3) Try to make the closest version of an effective Zoo.

In option (1), cards like Goblin Guide and Vexing Devil are fine. You are essentially making a slightly more creature efficient version of Red Deck Wins. You can also try Experiment One . Burning-Tree Emissary would allow you to become a lot more explosive as well. Overall, this path makes you look a lot like Gruul.

In option (3), cards like Woolly Thoctar would be fine. Combined with your other higher costed spells (i.e. Loxodon Smiter and Ajani Vengeant ), you may want to consider a set of mana dorks: Birds of Paradise or even just a Llanowar Elves (in big Zoo, they use Noble Hierarch ). Big Zoo requires 22-23 lands however.

As far as what you should take out, I would keep 4 Kird Ape , Wild Nacatl , Loam Lion and Lightning Bolt . The rest can be shaved off by 1-2 or all. Good luck!

P.S. You can remove 4 Loam Lion if you're going for Big Zoo

tchau204 has some good suggestions for sure. Regarding Figure of Destiny and Woolly Thoctar , they are decent. If you're going with Big zoo, throw thoctar in for sure. However, keep in mind that his mana cost could be troublesome for you without fetch lands. I'm not sold on Figure for the same reason I don't like Level up creatures. They usually die to removal before you can get value out of them, sometimes after you've invested mana into them.

If you're keeping the land count you currently have, I wouldn't have more than 2-4 3 drops. If it were me, I'd up the count to 23-24 and include some manlands. That way you'll have some mid-game power, and can activate man-lands if you get flooded.

Oh! Also, you need some Scavenging Ooze . I just realized you didn't have him in there. He's certainly the best 2-drop outside of Goyf. 2-3 of them should be good, as having more than one out isn't productive. Voice of Resurgence is another quality 2-drop.

Ajani, Caller of the Pride Seems ok. He might be as good or better than than Domri if you keep your creature count lower and don't have Goyf (Goyf is probably the most likely creature to use Domri's -2 on).

There is really no Improvements to make here. Pretty standard stuff.

instead of basic lands, you should use check lands. rootbound crag, sunpetal grove, clifftop retreat.

lunarman1995 says... #8

Those would be a good idea but it slows the deck down substantially. because i will have 9 lands that won't activate Wild Nacatl , Kird Ape , or Loam Lion . and that is roughly 50% of the lands that won't affect those creatures.

I think that Stomping grounds, Temple Garden and Sacred Foundry would be better additions. maybe a pair of each? That way you can even have full activation on the swing turn two, and you don't have to worry about not having a land you can play turn one, and you still have a ton of basics that wont eat up your life total the whole game with no way to get them back.

STIKY55 the deck already has a playset of those lands in the deck. the only thing i don't have is the fetch lands yet

How about Ajani, Caller of the Pride ? The flying double strike can be a great combo finisher. I also like Selesnya Charm although it is similar to the role of Ghor-Clan Rampager in your deck, it does give you some flexibility.

I would say that three manlands is a bit greedy. Raging Ravine works great with Noble Hierarch but since you are running Small Zoo, chances are that you will not have 5 untapped lands. Also Knight of the Reliquary has been doing some amazing work on my Naya Zoo. I now play him and retired Loxodon Smiter to the sideboard.

So:-1 Raging Ravine , -1 Treetop Village , -3 Loxodon Smiter , -1 Ghor-Clan Rampager

+2 Wooded Foothills , +4 Knight of the Reliquary

Prometheus-X- the Raging Ravine was supposed to be a Stirring Wildwood i thought i had changed it but i didn't yet. but i will probably take one Treetop Village out of the deck .unfortunately i don't have the Wooded Foothills or the Knight of the Reliquary so those all will have to wait to be cycled around

Your mana base looks a little off... You don't need that much green. Having enough red will help you cast multiple burn spells a turn. Just a thought, you may have good reasons for doing that.

corythackston You are right it is a bit off and i never even realized it. lol. but it hasn't hurt me yet. Although with the 6 fetches I can also always search for a red source with those. So it hasn't bothered the deck yet. but I could always try swapping some lands out for lands that produce red sources.

WolfLoL yes i agree Goblin Guide is probably the best red rush card. I just never got around to trying him and i really like the Vexing Devil in the deck. since it allows a nice 4 damage almost anytime early or late game. so i don't know if i feel like swapping it out yet to try the Goblin Guide out.

Thanks for commenting

Goblin Guide and even Monastery Swiftspear will always be better cards than Vexing Devil . Better in early and late game as Vexing Devil will always be the thing you don't want him to be, either a 4-damage spell in early game or a 4/3 creature. By no means it's a bad card but the two I mentioned beat him in this deck. I can easily see Vexing Devil being played in a UR Counterburn deck that runs Treasure Cruise .
