Wall of Shards, Alms Beast, Condemn, Oust, Dimir Machinations, and Diabolic Tutor are all good cards for this deck.

@9sharps

Thanks for the suggestions. I am liking Dimir Machinations over Diabolic Tutor. I will test it out.

Beacon of Immortality does nothing in the deck. Switch in Heroes' Reunion.

@pikachu21

Heroes' Reunion is an excellent suggestion. But why disagree with Beacon of Immortality? Is it because of its CMC? Or its effect? If the latter, I assure you it has synergy with Tainted Remedy. It is a player killer.

The Gatherer Card Ruling states:

"7/15/2007: Beacon of Immortality's effect counts as life gain (or life loss, if the life total was negative) for effects that trigger on or replace life gain (or life loss)."

How about Swords to Plowshares?

@cwissy1970

Swords to Plowshares would have been great in this deck except it's not Modern legal. At the moment, I am trying to keep this deck Modern only.

Been thinking about making a deck around the same idea with Abzan colors as well. Love the Alms Beast. Great find! +1

I think the beacon doesn't count as "life gain", the life just gets doubled. It's the same with "draw a card" and "put the top card into your hand". But don't quote me on that. :D

@Mongol

Thank you. It is still a work in progress.

@EpicFreddi

According to Gatherer Card Ruling, Beacon of Immortality does count as life gain if the player has positive life (more than 0). The card functions perfectly. If we are in agreement, you have to admit the card is sick lol.

Then it's an insta kill for 6 mana if you have your enchantment.

is there any reason of using the khan fetchlands that fetch for red instead of the zendikar enemy fetches Marsh Flats and Verdant Catacombs

July 22, 2015 9:19 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #14

Techmage45 I guess he wants the price to be a bit lower. The Zendikar Fetches would nearly double the price.

Techmage45 says... #15

EpicFreddi fair enough but it isn't listed as a budget deck, however the enemy fetches should be cheaper when the BFZ reprints come out in october

For the SB (or MD), perhaps a Blood Baron of Vizkopa would do work. Also I may need to build this deck, as it looks waaaay to fun!

July 22, 2015 10:29 a.m.

I think you might be able to cut green out of the deck entirely. Heros Reunion would be easily replaced with additional copies of Rest for the Weary. You could add more removal to make up for the loss of the mana dorks (controlling the board as opposed to out-racing your opponent), and possibly add the 4th Alms Beast and Wall of Shards. Abrupt Decay would be the hardest thing to give up by cutting green, but you can sub it with Path to Exile or multiples of other cards that are currently being played as 1-ofs. Or you can keep the green splash and use it only for Decay and Nature's Claim out of the SB, thereby making your lines of play a little clearer (don't have to decide to play a dork or a Thoughtseize turn 1).

Awesome decK! +1! also, have you heard of Life Burst?

July 22, 2015 1:08 p.m.

Techmage45 says... #21

RPG-Lord: Life Burst isn't legal in modern however it woudl be a good card in this deck.

TheEmgee: please could you list the deck as orzhov in the tagline and also put it under other tabs that apply to it. Just a bit OCD sorry :)

TheEmgee says... #22

Techmage45 you are correct. Those fetches would make more sense but at the moment I am using cards from my personal inventory. "If" the enemy fetches are reprinted like EpicFreddi stated, I will use those instead. EDITED: Will do on the deck tags :)

GeminiSpartanX Your suggestion is curious. I am afraid that too many noncreature spells may make me perceptible to cards like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. The mana dorks can at lease be used as blockers. I feel I need more resilient one or two drops to safeguard me against tempo decks. Then again, the benefit of heal cards is that I can use them on myself too. The mana dorks gave me the chance to cast Tainted Remedy as early as Turn 2. If I am on the play and my opponent is on the draw, counter decks like Grixis Control or Delver have no responses to a three mana spell that early unless they run Annul. Zoo seems like a scary match-up to me. With so many cheap creatures and removal, I am afraid they'll just walk right through. As I keep building this deck, I have to consider all those factors. Regardless, I'll test out your suggestion. I will limit green to a splash color. Fetching a Forest shouldn't be hard with shock lands in the deck.

Techmage45 says... #23

TheEmgee thanks for that btw.

July 22, 2015 2:28 p.m.

If you're worried about aggressive decks like zoo, you could try out Souls of the Faultless for additional early defense. You could also use your own tempo cards like Tidehollow Sculler to add to the early hand disruption already in your deck, eliminating the need to always play the Tainted Remedy on turn 2 before your opponent has counterspell mana up. It just feels like the mana dorks are a little forced here since you only have a total of 5 cards currently that are 4+ mana. I wouldn't worry about Thalia too much unless you're constantly facing decks that abuse her, and even then you have enough black discard and removal at your disposal that you can deal with her, as decks that use her generally aren't so aggressive that you can't draw an answer in time with your own lifegain cards.

triproberts12 says... #25

Grove of the Burnwillows is a good way to force life-gain, and you'll have enough red mana sources at that point to play Fiery Justice! Boulderfall and Lava Axe for 3 mana? Yes please.
