This deck is all about the mill. The general wincon here is Phenax, God of Deception + any and all of the creatures with defender. Then you just tap away and mill it to win it. As a back up to that wincon you also have Jace's Phantasm which becomes a 5/5 flier almost immediately due to all the cheap mill from Tome Scour, Break, and even Mind Funeral.
After a few play tests of this set it seemed apparent that there needed to be more draw. If you were mana heavy, only had defenders, or even only sorcery/instants but no creatures you were dead in the water. By adding Howling Mine you hand is almost never empty. After a few Howling Mine cards it seems only natural to drop a Spellbook to protect your hand. But almost more important that the card draws is Diabolic Tutor for the fetch. If you have all the defenders, fetch Phenax, God of Deception; if you hand is running thin, fetch Howling Mine; if your cup runneth over, fetch Spellbook.
This deck is a casual build so it is mostly for fun. You may not win on turn two or three like some other decks but typically their library is dry by turn ten or so. If you wanted to make a bit more competitive you might have to put some counters and removal in in place of some of the milling instants.
The Sideboard/Maybeboard has cards that are mostly just similar to ones in the deck. Nothing too special, just options.
Overall this deck is decently budget. The only outliers are Phenax, God of Deception, Howling Mine, and Mind Funeral, which are all pretty important to the deck so...
As with all my decks, they are mostly for fun. I typically do not compete or have the funding to gather the cards I covet. Just dreaming up combos and fun gameplay. But still, Any suggestions, comments, upvotes, or whatever are always appreciated.Thx
