A fairly good deck for its price. I would probably take out one or two of the Nighthowler s because of how conditional it can be.

I'm actually not a big fan of Disciple of Phenax . I'd rather have other 4 drops like Diabolic Tutor or Whip of Erebos , or if you need creatures Deathgaze Cockatrice or Insatiable Harpy .

Ordeal of Erebos isn't a terrible enchantment for heroic as well, and some discard to boot. Phyresis or Unholy Strength can also do well with Agent of the Fates if he can keep opponent's board clear.

If you're running Disciple of Phenax for the effect, my personal choice would be Duress . Yes, it has the possibility to miss unlike Disciple of Phenax or Thoughtseize but that's what happens when you have to stay within a budget (T_T i know that feeling).

Erebos's Emissary could make use of Nighthowler

I'd say try to get your hands on a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx it would definitely help make your deck faster.

What about Liliana's Reaver ? I don't know if it fits your budget, but looks like it's a great four-drop for aggro/devotion mono-black decks. Also, if you want to follow the aggro way, there's Rakdos Cackler too.

nice deck quick and deadly but you lack deffinetly a few things:1. 4x Doom Blade and 4x Ultimate Price (this is monoblack deck so you must put your enemy into hell)2. Liliana's Reaver is cheap and you deffinetly need it to kick ass :)3. 4x Duress always you can remove something from enemy's hand and look into it to prepare

No. The defending player just loses two life from Spiteful Returned . It's not damage.

Also, if you want to link cards you need two brackets: [ [Liliana's Reaver] ] (no spaces).

Deck seems pretty effective, and with the contents it looks like you'll have lots of heroic creatures on the field quickly. With that in mind it seems that you could benefit from spells that target multiple creatures to get more triggers. Gift of Orzhova takes care of your lifegain needs pretty well, but I might consider moving Cutthroat Maneuver from maybe to at least the sideboard for the aforementioned multi-target reasoning. Alternatively, while it doesn't provide any heroic triggers, Whip of Erebos provides lifelink to your entire field and allows you to unearth things and thus may be worth consideration.

Put Boon of Erebos and Cutthroat Maneuver in you don't have a lot of cards in currently to trigger the Heroic ability.

You NEED Boon of Erebos . That thing is your best heroic card in black (maybe bar Spiteful Returned ). GET THAT THING OUT OF THE MAYBEBOARD, AND STRAIGHT INTO THE MAIN BOARD. Seriously, they swing in with a few dudes, you play it, they sac a creature, you block them with agent, death touch kills a creature, and he then regenerates. Or aggressively, you use it, they sac their only blocker, then you swing in for 5. The life loss is near-irrelevant.

I like it for the budget. Dimir I'm gonna control mill aggro you (Need Help) is my Agent of the Fates deck if you would like any ideas from it. I've been working on it since Theros came out.

If you buy the Born of the Gods Theme deck... it has a lot of shit for mono-devotion black. It has your Hero's Downfall , Pack Rat , Desecration Demon , Bile Blight , and a few other things too.. and it has a Thoughtseize in there as well for only 25. It's well worth it if you pick up 2 of them.

btw +1'd for innovation instead of just following everyone else.

@KillTheIslandUser: That's not a great deal for me, because a) the cards I would use from there total to about $16 and b) my LGS retails it for $30, like SCG. That being said, the prices for the cards seem to have dropped from the $10-$14 that Hero's Downfall and Desecration Demon were (and the $5 Pack Rat was at :) ). I am considering slowly buying singles instead of relying on trades. BTW, there is no Thoughtseize in Underworld herald :(

@Shrooblord: I don't think Diabolic Tutor is worth it. It's a (relatively) high cost sorcery that has no immediate impact on the board. If I'm about to die, and I topdeck a something that's not a Diabolic Tutor (or a Swamp !) then I can usually stabilize.

Really nice deck. If you decide to run the Pack Rat i'd run them over Spiteful Returned . Also if you can it wouldnt be bad to pick up some Desecration Demon , they're down to about 5 bucks a pop now.

+1 from me! I was wondering if you get mana screwed often? 22 lands seems a little low, but clearly the deck works since you've been having success. Just wondering for my own curiosity. Definitely think a few more Temples will help if you can get them. Getting the trample ability out of Deviant Glee probably makes that card even better.

How has Gift of Orzhova been playing for you? In my opinion it just looks a little clunky. 3 mana for an aura that doesn't give any resilience to removal (apart from the +1 toughness), and also doesn't replace itself. Gary should be providing you with sufficient life gain, and i propose that you try Herald of Torment in gift's slot. It has bestow so you have flexibility in how you want to cast it, and the bestow is very reasonable, as well as just being a 3-power evasive beater for 3. Yes, the life-loss is annoying, but you're not running shocks or thoughtseize so it's not very significant, and as said earlier, gary can help with this.
