The Vampires are coming!

This Horde deck is a co-op Magic variant.

Use fairly weak decks against it, for the best results. Planeswalker decks, or decks you have built yourself out of packs you have cracked, generally work the best.

You will soon find out if you need to use stronger decks.

If you don't want to build this Horde deck in paper, just pilot it on the TappedOut Playtester.

We recommend that one Hero be responsible for turning over the cards in this Horde deck, and a different one keep track of the Heroes' life total.

You achieve a MINOR WIN if this Horde deck runs out of cards.

You achieve a MAJOR WIN if the Horde deck both runs out of cards, and has no creatures left on the field.

I made the deck to be a little bit like Battle the Horde

The idea is to slowly build up the Vampires, and give them mechanics to make them unstoppable.

Like any Magic deck, this is slightly challenging in the early game, and becomes more difficult to play against the more turns it takes.

I am proud that this deck is part of the Horde Magic: Compendium

Thanks to xram666 for including it.

All suggestions made for this deck will be considered. That doesn't mean they will automatically be adopted, no matter how special you think they/you are.

Think before making a suggestion. If you are going to insist up front that it is the ONLY thing that can make this deck better, or make snide comments about my choice of cards/theme, or if you are going to be a jerk in general, then save us both the trouble and just go away.

Don't just suggest a random card. Say what number should be included, and what should be removed for it.

Also check under the Cards Considered
button, to see if your suggestion has already been playtested.

Try to playtest any suggestions BEFORE making them, to check that they keep everything in balance.

The Horde

This deck is called the Horde.

  1. Shuffle the Horde and place its cards in a face down pile.

  2. The Horde plays second, and only after the Heroes have had three turns.

  3. At the start of its turn the Horde plays a card from the top of its library, unless there are cards on the field instructing it to do otherwise.

  4. Every turn the top card is put on the field, and attacks right away, if it can.

If it is unable to attack, it taps to activate an ability.

  5. Any other Horde cards on the field also attack on the Horde's turn, unless they can't. If they can't attack, but can tap to activate an ability, they do that instead.

  6. If the Horde is instructed to draw a card, it turns over an extra card before combat.

  7. If the Horde creatures get any Lifelink, that many cards are put from the graveyard, on the bottom of the Horde library.

This step happens at cleanup ie. if the deck achieves Lifelink on its first turn, the corresponding number of creatures are out on the bottom of the Horde library, even if they only died that turn.

  8. If this deck says an opponent must do something, randomly choose a player (we throw a die to determine who), and that person must perform the action.

  9. If any Planeswalkers are on the field, the Horde will choose to attack them first, over the Heroes.

  10. Always make the best play for the Horde, in consultation with the other Heroes.

  11. The Horde wins if the group life total of the Heroes is reduced to zero or below.

Notes for the Horde

Sometimes you will need to make a choice for the Horde, such as how it will assign combat damage, or how many creatures it will use to attack a Planeswalker.

The GOLDEN RULE is that the Horde will always do what is most beneficial for it.

Sometimes this requires discussion among the Heroes.

You will find that this co-op variant of Magic leads to a lot of good tactical discussion among players. Even more so than EDH.

The Heroes

All Players fighting the Horde are known collectively as the Heroes.

Up to three Heroes can play as a team, against this Horde deck.

  1. The Heroes play first. They mulligan, Scry, and draw as per usual. Then they take three turns before the Horde gets any.

  2. All Heroes take their turn at the same time, as with two-headed giant.

(Don't be silly and just all talk over each other. Let every player in order say what they will do that turn.)

  3. The Heros share a collective 20 life.

  4. When the Heroes deal damage to the Horde, that many cards are put into the Horde's graveyard from its library.

  5. The Heroes win if The Horde has no cards in its library, and no creatures on the battlefield.

Notes for Heroes

  • When a card like Bloodthirsty Aerialist refers to you, it means the Player controlling it. It is THAT player who must contribute life to the the Heroes' collective life total, in order to put a +1/+1 counter on Bloodthirsty Aerialist

  • Savage Gorger is a different case. If ANY creature or non-creature spell deals damage to the Opponent, Savage Gorger will get a +1/+1 counter.

  • You can let the Horde play its first turn twice, or you can let the Heroes take just one turn.

  • Adjust after you've played a few times.

Feel free to ask any questions.

I hope you enjoy battling the Horde!
