Swap weave fate for divination, I think

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't like Divination over Weave Fate because even though it's one mana cheaper, it has only sorcery speed, whereas Weave Fate is instant speed. This lets you wait until the end of the opponent's turn before deciding to draw, which leaves your mana open.

Interesting deck. Since you are more interested in instant speed card draw, why not switch out your one Treasure Cruise for one Dig Through Time? I don't think that would put it over $50. Also, maybe Jace's Ingenuity over Weave Fate as it is 1 more card for 1 more mana.

+1

I like the Dig Through Time idea, so I swapped that in. Jace's Ingenuity has more value than Weave Fate, but now my mana curve is a bit off, which will probably lead to some awkward turn 4s. I will playtest and see what happens.

Here my friend, win some games: Monoblue Control for brother umbron

April 16, 2015 5:52 p.m.

umbron says... #6

Thanks for the deck idea, jsansoldo. Very good mono blue control deck, however, that deck is out of my target budget range.

I made some card swaps and minor changes to set the mana curve back the way it was. Turn 4 isn't a huge problem now.

You need to play at least 26 lands in a deck like this, radiant fountain wouldn't be bad

April 16, 2015 8:35 p.m.

umbron says... #8

Ok, thanks. I upped the land count to 26 by adding in 3 Radiant Fountain, and moved 3 Negate to the sideboard.

Since you're running Shorecrasher, Perhaps 3 - Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx would put this deck over the $50 budget cap, so it can't go in. Great suggestion though.

Mabey sub out perplexing Chimra for hypnotic siren because the sirens is a good one drop plus sit has the same effect as Chimra with the bestow.

Good point. I made the change.

YAY! YOU'RE BACK!

I thought you left us forever... :'(

Also, Illusory Gains is bad, and so is Spellsnatcher. Icefall Regent is good though. Prognostic Sphinx and Stratus Dancer are also OK.

Ojutai's Breath is straight up a better version of Crippling Chill.

Random card or another of the same? Another please.

April 17, 2015 4:27 p.m.

umbron says... #16

Alright, made the requested changes:

-Took out Illusory Gains and Kheru Spellsnatcher. Moved in Icefall Regent. Will switch to Prognostic Sphinx if Icefall Regent doesn't work out.

-Moved Phyrexian Revoker to sideboard. Put in Stratus Dancer.

-Took out Crippling Chill, put in Ojutai's Breath.

April 17, 2015 4:31 p.m.

umbron says... #17

Looks like Icefall Regent puts us well above the $50 cap, so swapped him out for Prognostic Sphinx.

April 17, 2015 4:33 p.m.

Scorprix says... #18

No, Crippling Chill is better. The draw is really good, and with breath, you're almost always going to breath on your opponent's turn, and then they won't play a creature, forcing you to breath the same guy again. Chill is a 2-for-1, while Breath is often a 1-for-1.

April 17, 2015 4:39 p.m.

umbron says... #19

That's exactly what I figured. Switching back to Crippling Chill. Thanks!

Actually, Stratus Dancer doesn't seem to good. I like it in EDH instead of Willbender, but it seems bad in other formats.

April 17, 2015 4:42 p.m.

umbron says... #21

Okay. Reverted back to Phyrexian Revoker for that slot.

April 17, 2015 4:45 p.m.

Scorprix says... #22

You also might like Clever Impersonator and Master of Waves. they're a bit on the more expensive side, but are nice finishers/utility.

And I like Revoker as you said. Nice card against Caryatids. : )

April 17, 2015 4:49 p.m.

umbron says... #23

Love both of those cards, ESPECIALLY Master of Waves since I'm running Shorecrasher Elemental, but they would put me over budget. I would have to cut something significant to put either one of them in.

April 17, 2015 5:11 p.m.

umbron says... #24

Okay, swapped in 1 Clever Impersonator for the utility. Going to look for a way to fit in Master of Waves.

April 17, 2015 5:19 p.m.

It's about time someone made this deck :)

Is there a reason that Whelming Wave is not main? I personally think that, weirdly enough, you have too many win-cons. You could probably cut the Prognostic Sphinxes, or maybe one of them, and a land for some more control here.
