You can exploit profaner, so in the end its a 4 mana 3 toughness whelming wave. 3 toughness can hit most aggro creatures and completely wipe tokens!

Woah, I completely forgot it can exploit itself! That's brilliant! Swapping him in over Whelming Wave. Thanks for the suggestion! My 4-slot really needed an overhaul and this might just be it!

You're welcome! It synergizes well with your Omenspeaker too!

Jace, Living Guildpact is dirt cheap. Do you feel he has a place in here somewhere?
April 22, 2015 10:26 p.m.
Yes, Deep Blue is the name of a Chess AI program, but in this case it's a coincidence that I chose the same name.
Jace, the Living Guildpact is a horrible mess of a planeswalker, hence his dirt cheap price tag. He doesn't do much for this deck so I didn't include him, and I really really miss his older versions such as Jace, Architect of Thought. If you really like him though and want to drop him in this deck, you can drop 1x Profaner of the Dead and 1x Dragon's Eye Savants to get 2 copies of him in.

It's not that I like him. He really is trash compared to all his other incarnations. His -3 is negligible, as it's a 4 mana Unsummon at sorcery speed. His +1 is trash. His ultimate is nice though. And Planeswalkers to provoke attacks toward them if you want to trap an opponent with Aetherspouts or buy some life.
It was just a thought. I'm not sure how good a mono blue deck can work this format. Though if I were going to, I would probably run a full playset of Reality Shift, some Swan Song, Curse of Swine, and more Whelming/Aetherspouts for creature disruption.
The Blue, Flying Megamorph Hexproof dragon could be fun in here too.

Haven't priced these in awhile, but what about Master of Waves and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx now that there are some really good sources of Blue Devotion out there?
Same with Thassa, God of the Sea

@veeonix Yeah it's true that he can provoke some attackers for AEtherspouts, but it's not particularly necessary, and not enough to justify his inclusion in the deck. I agree with the playset of Reality Shift, I think I'll shift cards around to get 4 of those in. Swan Song might be a good sideboard card, although I don't see why we should use it over something like Negate. Curse of the Swine was good back in the Quicken days, but sorcery speed along with the heavy downside just make it too situational to work in my opinion. Whelming Wave is good, but in most cases, as EssTea mentioned, Profaner of the Dead does more for the 4 mana. Belltoll Dragon also good, but too expensive for a 3/3 body imo.
@RogueArtificer Those cards are all way over the deck's budget. Hence the maybeboard. All excellent cards though and worth their pricetag if you can afford them!

Recently at FNM i tried cycling in some Living Lores for the ability to use on either aetherspouts (a decent 5/5 with board removal) or dig through time (8/8 that when destroyed in combat gets you 2 more cards) also with all the bottom decking in this deck maybe include 3 evolving wilds instead of 3 islands for deck shuffle and then Learn from the past to recycle alot of your graveyard cards.

Hmmm, well Jace, the Living Guildpact is pretty awful, so I'll pass on him.
Profaner of the Dead is intriguing, especially if I swap out Omenspeaker for some Dragon's Eye Savants. The problem is there will be plenty of games where I'm facing an aggressive deck and need to drop Profaner of the Dead, but have no creature on the board. In that case, Whelming Wave is better since it's unconditional. I think if I had to choose, I would rely on Whelming Wave since it's a little more consistent, but I will try out both.
