"What could be more fun than attacking with your creatures? How about attacking with your opponents creatures?"
(Above: You and your stolen army preparing for battle)
The primary goal is to take their creatures with the Throwing Knife
+
Willbreaker
combo,
Akroan Conscriptor
, or Act of Treason and sac them off to either
Collateral Damage
or one of the exploit creatures. If that fails, there's token creation to take place of their creatures. At the moment, this deck isn't super streamlined, but is capable of turn 6/7 wins.
Step 1: Hit land drops.
Step 2: Take their creatures with Act of Treason, Willbreaker, or
Akroan Conscriptor
.
Step 3: Swing at your opponents with their creatures and (if available) buff them with
Hammerhand
,
Titan's Strength
, or
Throwing Knife
.
Step 4: Sacrifice the stolen creatures before they get back to their original controller.
Step 5: Laugh maniacally at their empty board and lower life total.
At the moment, I'm sure this combo works. Having received confirmation from several judges, this is how it would work:
1. Have
Throwing Knife
equipped to a creature.
2. Get Willbreaker on the battlefield.
3. Attack with the creature.
4. The knife's ability triggers. You declare targets.
5. Willbreaker triggers.
6. You choose not to sacrifice
Throwing Knife
.
Hooray! You took their Siege Rhino with your Ornithopter!!
Now, this may seem sketchy, but it works. I've seen a few instances in which people have called judges and each time it has been ruled that this is how it would work. A similar card is
Lightning Rift
. The following ruling for that card was made on October 10, 2004:
"You choose the target when this ability is put on the stack, but you decide whether or not to pay the mana until the ability resolves."
In addition, rules 603.5 and 117.12 in the comprehensive rule book respectively read:
603.5. Some triggered abilities' effects are optional (they contain "may," as in "At the beginning of your upkeep, you may draw a card"). These abilities go on the stack when they trigger, regardless of whether their controller intends to exercise the ability's option or not. The choice is made when the ability resolves. Likewise, triggered abilities that have an effect "unless" something is true or a player chooses to do something will go on the stack normally; the "unless" part of the ability is dealt with when the ability resolves.
117.12 "Some spells, activated abilities, and triggered abilities read, "[Do something]. If [a player] [does or doesn't], [effect]." or "[A player] may [do something]. If [that player] [does or doesn't], [effect]." The action [do something] is a cost, paid when the spell or ability resolves.
