Thanks again to the TappedOut community for all the support this deck has received! The popularity of this deck surpassed my expectations once it hit 10 upvotes, so this is more than I ever could have imagined. Again, thank you.

Loving it so far, been doing quite a bit of testing. The only downside is that as soon as you get rolling and swing for 7-9 damage turn 4 or so, you're done. It's really hard to get your engine going again since ou'll basically be topdecking from there on out. I'm thinking it might be beneficial to board in Monastery Siege or Day's Undoing So that as soon as you dump all your cards for a massive early game play, you can go right back to it and swing for lethal. Otherwise, I'm loving it, and probably going to play it at the next few FNM's.

Cheers!

@StaticTiger: That's something I've noticed as well. I originally had Treasure Cruise in the sideboard for that exact reason, but removed it. Monastery Siege is far more budget-friendly. Considering it's CMC is 3, I'll try to find a spot somewhere. Day's Undoing will fit perfectly in the non-budget sideboard. Thanks!

Took this list to my local FNM and had mixed results. Went 3-1 with the list Game 1 I beat Abzan control by getting will breaker out and dropping an icy blast. Game 2 didn't draw the combo and go overrun by Black devotion. Game 3 Lost to Abzan Midrange because I didn't draw will breaker and got over run. Game 4 Lost to mono red goblins on turn 3 because of piledriver and Rabblemaster. This is an okay budget deck by it relies too heavily on the combo and fizzles out if you can't draw it. Played a mini blue mill deck and got destroyed because he killed all of my combo pieces.

@wjohnson936, Eao134's results are exactly what I was referring to when I said you might want to consider trimming off a color for consistency. 3 colors with budget dual lands that enter tapped is going to be slow at best and very inconsistent at worst.

@Sagarys: I suppose the easiest color to cut would be black. The problem is, I'll lose my sac-outlet. I'll try to find a way around that I guess.

Looking a lot tighter now. Can't wait to see some results! Nice deck. +1

Unless WotC or an official judge comments on this, I'm going to agree that the knife will be sac'd. In order for the ability to exist, you need to meet the condition first. I feel that knife is gone.

Can you link me to the Grixis list if you still have the list somewhere?

I'm bringing this deck to the next week FNM, not this one... I'll let you know how it turns out!

Maybe a couple Mage-Ring Network's to help gear up for a nice big Icy Blast. Works nice with Crater's Claws if you had it in there too, well pretty much any spell I suppose. Like Mindswipe. ONly other thing I could suggest is if budget allows add in some pain lands too maybe.

i love this deck and am building it myself. if it wasn't standard, though, Ghostly Touch would be an awesome, vanilla alternative to Throwing Knife.

@Slathalin: Glad to hear it! (Nice card as well)

@Mj3913: While Mage-Ring Network would be great for X spells, it would also dilute the colored mana available. Plus, Battlefield Thaumaturge is already in here to make an infinite Icy Blast. Crater's Claws and Mindswipe are raw burn cards, which don't really fit in here. Ideally, having the option to either ping and take control multiple creatures or shoot down a threat is the kind of versatility we would want in our burn spells. While Mindswipe would also function as a counter, this deck taps out every turn more often than not. Good cards though.

@Magicrafter: Sorry, I'm afraid it's lost. :(

I can put it back together for you though. I'll post a link on your profile when it's done.

wjohnson936 when I bought the deck, I screenshotted the original black blue red incarnation. Would you like me to put it up on my profile so you can copy it?

What do you do against decks with very low creature counts? The most common deck is Esper Control and its variants.

rdmcabee says... #20

You can't play 5 cost spells with 22 lands. You will be short lands too often. 22 might not be enough for your 4 cost spells as well. Monastery siege can fix this, but what if you don't draw it in your opening hand?

Have you considered Chandra, Pyromaster? She goes for low prices, and can duplicate any instants or sorceries.

July 21, 2015 12:08 p.m.

wjohnson936 says... #22

@The_Admaster: Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh  Flip was in the original board. Like, the first draft of this list. I chose Pyromancer's Goggles over her, but that got removed as well. While it's great to copy spells, sometimes that ability comes too late or at too high a cost. (Both mana and $$$)

@rdmcabee: I had 24 last time I checked. I must have pulled two out for some reason. I'll fix that.

wjohnson936 says... #23

@Noctem: Another user asked an identical question 2-3 days ago, but at that point I had Nantuko Husk. You would have 2 options: Mainboard the Titan's Strengths and try to go half-ass aggro or try to counter their control. Remember, this deck is <$10 and is more of a gimmick deck than anything. It's not going to do well in every match-up.

Noctem says... #24

Fair enough. The reason I'm asking is that FNM last friday was 3 esper control or variant and an abzan mid range. Made 3rd place but it was rough. lol.

I actually had the idea for this deck as well, except it went 4 colors excluding white. This version looks so much better though and i'll most likely give it a try.

+1 for awesome gifs
