I'm bringing this deck to the next week FNM, not this one... I'll let you know how it turns out!

Maybe a couple Mage-Ring Network's to help gear up for a nice big Icy Blast. Works nice with Crater's Claws if you had it in there too, well pretty much any spell I suppose. Like Mindswipe. ONly other thing I could suggest is if budget allows add in some pain lands too maybe.

i love this deck and am building it myself. if it wasn't standard, though, Ghostly Touch would be an awesome, vanilla alternative to Throwing Knife.

@Slathalin: Glad to hear it! (Nice card as well)

@Mj3913: While Mage-Ring Network would be great for X spells, it would also dilute the colored mana available. Plus, Battlefield Thaumaturge is already in here to make an infinite Icy Blast. Crater's Claws and Mindswipe are raw burn cards, which don't really fit in here. Ideally, having the option to either ping and take control multiple creatures or shoot down a threat is the kind of versatility we would want in our burn spells. While Mindswipe would also function as a counter, this deck taps out every turn more often than not. Good cards though.

@Magicrafter: Sorry, I'm afraid it's lost. :(

I can put it back together for you though. I'll post a link on your profile when it's done.

wjohnson936 when I bought the deck, I screenshotted the original black blue red incarnation. Would you like me to put it up on my profile so you can copy it?

What do you do against decks with very low creature counts? The most common deck is Esper Control and its variants.

You can't play 5 cost spells with 22 lands. You will be short lands too often. 22 might not be enough for your 4 cost spells as well. Monastery siege can fix this, but what if you don't draw it in your opening hand?

Have you considered Chandra, Pyromaster? She goes for low prices, and can duplicate any instants or sorceries.

wjohnson936 says... #14

@The_Admaster: Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh  Flip was in the original board. Like, the first draft of this list. I chose Pyromancer's Goggles over her, but that got removed as well. While it's great to copy spells, sometimes that ability comes too late or at too high a cost. (Both mana and $$$)

@rdmcabee: I had 24 last time I checked. I must have pulled two out for some reason. I'll fix that.

@Noctem: Another user asked an identical question 2-3 days ago, but at that point I had Nantuko Husk. You would have 2 options: Mainboard the Titan's Strengths and try to go half-ass aggro or try to counter their control. Remember, this deck is <$10 and is more of a gimmick deck than anything. It's not going to do well in every match-up.

Fair enough. The reason I'm asking is that FNM last friday was 3 esper control or variant and an abzan mid range. Made 3rd place but it was rough. lol.

I actually had the idea for this deck as well, except it went 4 colors excluding white. This version looks so much better though and i'll most likely give it a try.

+1 for awesome gifs

@Noctem: Control can be tough for any deck to deal with. Some of the big cards you would need to make sure to keep counter spells open for include Languish, Crux of Fate, and Infinite Obliteration as they can independently shut this deck down. Like I said, it can be tough.

@Teh_U: This deck was originally Grixis and I though THAT was too diverse. I couldn't imagine trying to run 4 colors. Glad to hear you like the deck (and the gifs)!

i not sure here but i bet you would know since you came up with that cool throwing knife combo. so my question is, if i Yasova Dragonclaw + Willbreaker in play, then i go to combat step, that's when Yasova Dragonclaws ability triggers. now this triggered ability is just like Throwing Knife (i think). so like how you explained your cool combo above this combo should work the same just by entering combat. is this correct?

The rest of my Grixis cards are gonna be arriving tonight, and I plan to play it casually tonight, so I'll let you know how it goes. Next week I may use the 2 color variant at fnm

July 22, 2015 1:02 p.m.

wjohnson936 says... #22

@griffstick: Yes. It works the same way. Note that the creatures won't get untapped and won't gain haste unless you pay for the ability. Nice catch.

Hey yall. I went up to my local shop today and bought the deck. 10 bucks total not too bad. The deck works amazingly but I run into one problem. Willbreaker doesnt appear often enough to be the backbone of the deck. I also find that arc lightning does the job way better than throwing knife when it comes to taking creatures with mindbreaket because then you can take up to 3 enemy target creatures. I also find that there is no early game defense. I think there needs to be a good way to scry ( like omen speaker ) and some good turn 1 drops ( ornithopter or hypnotic siren ). These are just my opinions and let me know what you think.
