SCG IQ Top 8 (6th Place) —Dec. 28, 2014
4-0-1 in the swiss, lost in quarterfinals
Round 1: GR Aggro 2-1 Nothing of note here. Hornet Queen continues to be OP against these decks, but fighting through 2 Rabblemasters on the draw usually loses you a game.
Round 2: Abzan Whip 2-1 I have literally never lost the Whip mirror. This was fairly close. The kept a risky 6 Game 1 and was punished for it, and my draws in Game 3 were just higher quality. Really could've gone either way.
Round 3: Abzan Midrange 2-0 One of our best matchups. Nothing of note here.
Round 4: GB Whip 2-1 This is the toughest of the Whip decks for us. Nylea, Genesis Hydra and See the Unwritten are tough to deal with. Thinking a maindeck Utter End might be necessary.
Round 5: Intentional Draw into Top 8
Quarterfinals: BW Aggro 0-2 Nothing of any consequence here. Thoughtseize turned my hand in Game 1 from solid to very weak and I never drew an answer to Brimaz with a bestowed Herald of Torment (despite having multiple maindeck answers). Game 2 I mulled a hand of Courser, Soul of Theros and 5 lands into a hand of Courser and 5 lands, into a hand of Courser, 2 Downfall, a Rhino and a Windswept Heath. My opponent also had a very slow start with mana problems of his own but my removal was not able to keep up with 3 Wingmate Roc.
Elspeth seemed a little weak today. I'm considering cutting it and bringing Utter End mainboard and adding either an Erase or another Reclamation Sage to the board.
