My current Mono Red Aggro Standard Deck
Took it to the game day at the local game store and finished place 3 out of 22.
This deck is pretty fast and agressive and should be self explanatory. Beat your opponent to Burn range an finish of or kill him with sheer superiorty of your 1/1 Weenies.
I know there is another Mono Red Deck around, which focuses on Akroan Crusader and a lot of Auras, such as Hammerhand or Dragon Mantle but I prefer this type of deck, for I don't like Auras too much.
Of course there are some hard match ups but the deck works quite well in general. For Example play like this:
Turn 1: Foundry Street Denizen
Turn 2: Dash Mardu Scout, swing for 5.
Turn 3: Hordeling Outbourst or Goblin Rabblemaster, contuine pressuring your opponent.
Sideboard Options:
- Outpost Siege: Simply Chandra + another ability, e.g. for U/B control match up. Chandra is simply to easy to remove with Hero's Downfall
- Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker: Against Midrange Decks, when you need to fly over your opponent
- Different burns suited for different situations, e.g immedeately would board Searing Blood against Mirror Matches.
This deck is pretty easy to play and not this expensive (although I had lent most of the cards from my Roommate, who was playing U/B control and therefore didn't need them). If someone is just starting out with magic and kinda wants to play competitive I highly recommend a Mono Red Deck.
Fate Reforged Gameday 02.14.15:
Game 1 (VS. U/W Heroic): Opponent was way to fast, pumped his heroc dudes, Ordeal of Heliod lifegain and a lot of protection spells -> 0-2
Game 2 (VS. U/W Heroic): Again, but little different decklist. Managed to beat him 2-1 but was quite a close call. He did not use as much protection spells and screwed a little on his mana base -> 2-1
Game 3 (VS. Abzan Midrange): The deck I feared the most, but managed to outrun him 2 times. Handeld 2 Courser of Kruphix, 1 Siege Rhino and several Bile Blight and Fleecemane Lion. Though one though. In the end -> 2-0
Game 4 (VS. Abzan Midrange): Again, different decklist, lots of Planeswalker. I was lucky he mulliganed to 5 in both games and had to keep hands with two mana or less. Kind of a lucky win -> 2-0
The guy who beat me Game 1 made it to the final but lost against some Mardu colour deck, featuring Flamewake Phoenix, Butcher of the Horde and Crackling Doom
