Whatever happened to mono black aggro? It was sort of a thing in Theros-Tarkir standard but didn't see widespread play. Well I have created a new twist that is rotation proof and also has plenty of late game gas thanks to power houses like Drana, Liberator of Malakir,
Inverter of Truth
, and
Demonic Pact
. That's right! This deck includes all of these cards!
Deck contents are as follows:
1-Drops
Reaver Drone
When I saw this card it instantly reminded me of playing last standard's black aggro. 2/1 for 1 is no joke even if we loss life each turn. But we are packing 10 colorless creatures so that helps to soften that downside.
Thornbow Archer
Remember this guy back when Origins came out? Yeah he was annoying then and is annoying now. Basically a
Mardu Shadowspear
without the dash and +0/+1.
Foul-Tongue Shriek
This helps to push those last couple points of damage into the redzone. Also helps us gain some life to negate life loss from some of our creatures.
Unnatural Endurance
A pump spell and a protection spell wrapped into one package. A better Boon of Erbos for sure.
2-Drops
Bearer of Silence
This is a nasty creature. A 2/1 flyer for 2?! Already great but with the kicker being able to make your opponent sacrifice a creature in the late game it's too good. He is the reason we play Caves of Koilos, so we can have access to black and colorless mana.
Despoiler of Souls
A 3/1 that can bring itself back from the graveyard. A bigger Bloodsoaked Champion.
Zulaport Cutthroat
We all know what this guy is capable of. He makes late game blocking especially difficult when the opponent only has a couple points of life left and blocking would cause them to lose the game.
Grasp of Darkness
We run 2 mainboard as early removal in addition to
Bearer of Silence
. Being double black is no problem for us.
3-Drops
Drana, Liberator of Malakir
Drana is a powerhouse in any aggro deck and really shines here. Giving all of our creatures +1/+1 counters. We all know how powerful she is, enough said.
Pitiless Horde
Bet you never expected to see this is a decklist did ya? 5/3 for 3 is no joke and the ability to dash lets us use our mana late game. Dashing
Pitiless Horde
while Drana, Liberator of Malakir equals 6 damage each dash if unanswered.
4-Drops
Inverter of Truth
How has this BEA$T not found a home yet? 6/6 for 4 is amazing stats and picture this. By the time you play it you probably have lost a couple spells to the graveyard. You would be getting those spells and negating the chance that you draw a land for the remainder of the game. That seems great to me!
Demonic Pact
I remember when this first came out everyone was trying to make the perfect deck this
Demonic Pact
as the cornerstone. After using it in this list I have found out that it works much better as a curve topper in an aggressive deck like this one. It helps us draw and hit our opponent hard and hey, if we lose the game because of it well then we were probably going to lose anyway.
Well there you have it. A rotation friendly black (colorless) aggro list with all the fixings! I can only imagine what Shadows of Innistrad has offer to this deck as well! Let me know what you think about the list and how it can be improved!
