Is there a good reason why you're not playing Arcbound Ravager in this deck?

Primarily dollars, but I'm also trying to go more "all in aggro", and I think arcbound, while amazing late game, and saves you from a lot of 2-for-1's, BUT it's widely considered to be bad early game, and that's what I'm trying to be thing king of. There's a lot of twin and burn in my meta and I want to out race them.

It seems twin is a bit of a problem for you. Affinity is normally a bad match up against twin anyways but if you want to up your odds you need to be able to take their combo pieces. Grixis twin is played a ton now and it usually consists of a lot of counter magic so trying to out counter a grixis twin deck is possible, it's not very likely. One of the great things about affinity though is that it can produce just about any mana you can think of. Cards like Abrupt Decay can really do some damage toward their main combo pieces since Deceiver Exarch can be destroyed without possibility of being countered. This way you save your normal counters for countering their counters, always fun right? Haha. Thoughtseize is good since you can pick out either of the main combo pieces but still has the opportunity of being countered. As for jeskai Geist, there's not much you can do about it but be patient. Nothing about it except how quick it is stands out. I think just a change in play style is what's needed to beat it. Meaning don't use removal for things your creatures can deal with and be familiar with the normal cards that they could be running in order to counter them. It moves quick with things like batter skull, Geist and restoration angel but it doesn't run much counter magic. You're creatures you can produce will generally be larger if you can hold about two counters In hand for Geist or restoration and exile the batterskull to where it can never come back and be a bother again. Just gotta slow it down and counter the right cards. My sideboard suggestion for you would be 2 Abrupt Decay, 2 Dispatch, 4 Rune Snag 2 Duress, 3 Thoughtseize and 2 Condescend. Sorry this was so long but I felt talkative, lol. There's not really a great way to sideboard against them but being able to stop the combo is really the only way to do it. Condescend can go either way. It's good for scry but costs am extra mana early game which shouldn't be too hard with affinity. If you can't produce the mana you need then I would switch it back to spell pierce. +1 and good luck against those bastardly overpowered twin decks!

Any particular reason for Abrupt Decay besides getting countered? I've seen twin use their artifact hate to destroy colored mana sources (opal, drum, ect) before attempting to combo out. Seems getting 2 colored sources would be difficlut in sucha situation. I've never seen affinity use it before.

I do like the idea of running some of my own countermagic, and Stubborn Denial isn't really holding up. Any particular reason for Condescend? It seams really difficult to pull off. Rune Snag seems like some cool tech though for grindy matchups. I might just run Remand though because I pulled a playset in Modern Masters (lol)

Artifact hate is kinda dying out in twin decks but it will still always happen. No matter what you do, twin is always going to be a bad match up for affinity but if you can bait it right, they shouldn't go after mana source. Side boarding it doesn't reveal it and like you said, it's a bit odd and they don't expect it. It's something new I've been working on to try and make the match up better and it had been working very well for me at the couple fnms I've played it at. If they do destroy mana sources, use abrupt early on and save some counter magic. It's kind of a trade off for them. They either need to waste removal on mana source, or counter things they don't want to and leaving themselves open for your own counter. Remand is really good, I just don't have them so I don't think about it much. It also allows them to just put the combo piece back in their hand so it can come right back out next turn unless you have an answer for it then also. I use condescend because generally I can create more mana than my opponent early game so it's not just one extra mana they need to pay to play it. Certain decks like tron have more of a mana base earlier In and paying one won't be much of a problem for them. It also targets early creatures rather than just an instant or sorcery that typically isn't played first turn and allows you to move through the deck faster to get to your own priorities.

I see that you already have the sideboard, but you commented that you wanted help with it. I'm going to suggest Voltaic Key because it has a stupid amount of synergy with all colorless decks like yours.

Try adding a Choke if your meta is heavy on Twin or any other URx decks.

Dismember is a good catch-all removal spell against your meta. Stops Twin, kills Tarmogoyf/Siege Rhino/Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and messes up Infect's combat damage.

Blood Moon is almost an auto-win against decks like Infect, Amulet Bloom and Scapeshift while messing up other greedy 3 color manabases.

Yeah, you REALLY want a playset of Arcbound Ravagers, as they make your board state virtually invincible. Then I'd go for a fourth Mox Opal, thats how Affinity gets crazy starts.

With all the Path to Exile and Ghost Quarter's running around lately, I've been feeling the need to add in a second basic land. Is this a good idea? Or should I just deal with it by aggro-ing harder?

I've also been considering compensating for my lack of Arcbound Ravager by using some main-board Shrapnel Blasts for an early game closer. Thoughts?

Also for some reason there's 3 Jeskai decks running at my LGS, things like Electrolyze, Spell Snare, Lightning Helix. It's a strangely tough matchup. Also for some reason every single person has 4 Stony Silence in their sideboard, so I've been considering adding even more Wear / Tear.

I have recently put two Ghirapur AEther Grid into my Sideboard and I LOVE it ! Not only does it wreck merfolk lords and helps with the typical mirror match board stalls, it also crushes what I would concider the worst matchup: BW Tokens. It just makes it so easy to win in many games in which your opponent could otherwise overwhelm you. But the best thing of all : It gets around Stony Silence and makes all your otherwise useless artifacts into fodder for a machine gun !

Now that Twin is banned there is no point to Torpor Orb being in you sideboard.

Good catch! I've been so used to having Torpor Orb in every single modern sideboard that I just kind of forgot about it. I'll replace it with Ghirapur AEther Grid on a trial basis.

I have never heard of that card before. I might try to find a place for it. I am a fan of Affinity myself. I try to make budget versions.

February 3, 2016 2:30 p.m.

With eldrazi decks making the seen better keep that torpor orb in the sideboard. EtB effects are coming back around.

February 8, 2016 7:39 p.m.

Scene. Im half asleep cant spell.

February 8, 2016 7:40 p.m.

Lastdaysgunslinger : Most of the Eldrazis trigger when cast, so Torpor Orb is still useless. Also against Eldrazis you might want to attack the mana base rather than the ETB effects.

February 8, 2016 8:10 p.m.

True but with displacer decks starting to heat up EtB might show its ugly face again.

February 8, 2016 8:42 p.m.

I count 21 eldrazi creatures with EtB in standard. Modern has even more. So there is definitely some to watch.

Been messing around with a 1x Bone Saw instead of Welding Jar. Thoughts?
