You are right, that is very handy, I might have to add those in! what do you think of adding in Eternal Thirst ?
July 31, 2014 4:18 p.m.
If I end up adding Eternal Thirst I would swap Gift of Orzhova for Canopy Cover , and then throw in Eternal Thirst . That allows me to keep both of my abilities.

Have you thought about maybe side boarding in Sheltering Word ? Not only can you save your hydra if it gets targeted by removal, but it will also give you a crap ton of life.

That's a great idea! I'll definitely try to make room for it.

One of my favorite cards in my Golgari counter deck is Quest for the Gemblades.
November 29, 2014 2:46 p.m.
Wow yeah, Scavenging Ooze! I will try to get my hands on some. Thank you! I'll think about Quest for the Gemblades since, most of my noncreature spells serve for control now, the +1/+1 counters almost add themselves. I'll test it and see if it works. thanks for the suggestions!

I had a Golgari Counter Ramp deck before KTK rolled all those cards out. It was soo awesome. I think I might try and make a modern deck out of it now.
My favourite move was having at least 1 Corpsejack Menace & whipping back Kalonian Hydra and trample for win. My opponent would be like, what just happened????
haha +1 from me.

I don't really think Quest for the Gemblades is worth running. Seems too much of a slow win-more kinda card.

True, my deck is definitely more of a snowball sort of play style. It takes a while to pick up so it may not play as well in here.
December 2, 2014 1:17 p.m.
Yea this deck used to be more of the long build up to victory type, but now, due to my local meta, it has to be very fast to be competitive. I'll probably find a use for Quest for the Gemblades somewhere else. I was also debating swapping Mistcutter Hydra for Protean Hydra, since Protean Hydra combos well with Retribution of the Ancients. I'm not sure yet. Any thoughts?

I'd keep the Mistcutter Hydra. It has 3 of the most magical words in magic on it... "can't be countered"
December 3, 2014 10:39 a.m.
APPLE01DOJ thats a pretty solid point. I'll keep it :) I was considering swapping Essence Harvest for Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. I could use his ability on command, I can use it after whipping back a creature, and he just gets bigger as stuff dies. Opinions?

how is the speed of your deck? I have deck thats basically the same, but it can be a hit or miss.
December 4, 2014 12:50 a.m.
After all my recent changes, It has played much more consistently. My deck looked a lot like yours not too long ago, and I know what you mean about it being hit or miss. The big thing that helped this deck in my opinion was the control aspect. The lifelink and removal helps me maintain a board state while diminishing the possibility of utter annihilation since this deck is slower than almost every other modern deck. Stuff likeSheltering Word and Whip of Erebos have been essential for prolonging a game. Lots of removal is also key. you want to always have an answer to everything your opponent puts out, and if you don't have enough of those, you wont survive.

If that's the case I suggest u tweak ur removal.
-4 crappy removal spells Pune Blade, Go Put On Your Coat, & Pile of White
Plus 4 Abrupt Decay :)
-1 Hero's Downfall Plus 1-2 Maelstrom Pulse Downfall is good but I rather have a Pulse.
Victim of Night and Putrefy are pretty good. They both hit manlands like Celestial Colonnade which your deck needs since you're not rocking any Tectonic Edge or even Ghost Quarter
December 4, 2014 1:24 p.m.
Oh I know, those are my ideal removal spells. I dont have them in my list mostly because I am just on a budget and get most of my stuff through trades. No one near me has those, and I am not willing to spend that much just to flesh out my removal. In my local meta, my current removal works fine, and that's why I'm not really worried about having the best removal atm. But yeah I see your point on the manlands, I had not considered that. Thanks!
December 4, 2014 3:53 p.m.
That makes sense. Could you make some suggestions on what to add and remove on my deck wall?

Apostle's Blessing to prevent your creatures from being killed
December 4, 2014 8:50 p.m.
Ok, I'll try Apostle's Blessing. If I do like it, I might just go Gods Willing, Feat of Resistance, or maybe even Mizzium Skin. Especially since my mana dorks can produce any color, (I will be changing my Elvish Mystic to Birds of Paradise) I will be able to cast them. though I can see how the two life can be a great save ass aspect. i'll think about it.
December 11, 2014 11:07 a.m.
Added Apostle's Blessing, I think it will help me fend off against bigger combat tricks and huge creature buffs. I still am not sure about Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord vs Essence Harvest. I feel like he's too vulnerable, but can make for a nice combat trick so I'm not sure. Loving the whip though.
You guys have any thoughts on if I should add any frf cards?

Have you tried Gyre Sage for mana ramp? It gets out of control if left unchecked
January 20, 2015 3:31 a.m.
Comfordor I did have Gyre Sage in for a long time, but I preferred not having to wait for my mana ramp. I loved it but its still a bit slow.
January 20, 2015 2:20 p.m.
LIVEFORCHAOS, wow Heartless Summoning is pretty amazing. I'm going to have to test it out, It looks like it would work quite nicely. Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch will definitely be something to think about, I'll see if I can make it work.

It is interesting and could potentially save you, but my favorite of all the pacts is Slaughter Pact . It is an awesome save-ass card. especially when your opponent will play virtually anything when you are showing no mana. You just have to be careful that you remember to tap the mana next turn.
