explain this to me: do you seriously run noxious gearhulk when the only way to play it is ultimating nahiri? if so cut cut cut. otherwise cool deck

MasterXandar Sure do! :) Well not just Nahiri, the Harbinger..... Saheeli Rai is super good at getting Noxious out as well for the ETB triggers :P

As a 1of he does the trick, Saheeli Rai needs me to be able to find 3 with different names, so thats why the addition of the Noxious because I am not always going to want a sweeper from Cataclysmic Gearhulk and may already have Panharmonicon or Perpetual Timepiece in play resulting in a less then stellar Ult from her. Also Nahiri, the Harbinger can get the Noxious.

I am still toying with the ideas of Refurbish and Cathartic Reunion which would make Noxious Gearhulk even more viable. Just stacking jank on top of jank :P

@ Wombat604 shes gone, but not forgotten :)

Early stages of playtesting showed her to be lackluster more times then not in this shell. I think shes amazing, just more in a Grixis/Izzet or Red Deck Wins list then here. She may make her way back in as a 1of

@ Kameronmcl I know its great! Cant get over the love for this jank list! I love creating Janky competitive standard lists, and I love that you guys love them!

Eldrazi Displacer / Mirrorpool are out for more Collective Defiance and 4of each Spell Queller / Reflector Mage

Might go to 4 Saheeli Rai dont think I have to though..... just think its been a batch of bad draws.

You either need to drop a Reflector Mage from MB or SB.

September 21, 2016 7:24 p.m.

xGhostx says... #8

Yeah I know, I am still working on the SB, Torrential Gearhulk wont be staying in the SB either

I am sorry to point this out, but I think Panharmonicon is a redundant slot. "If an artifact or creature entering the battlefield causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger". From what I understand, it has to trigger an ability of another permanent.

e.g. Panharmonicon and Thalia's Lieutenant have resolved. If another human was to enter the battlefield Thalia's Lieutenant would gain a +1/+1 counter as well as an additional +1/+1 counter.

xGhostx says... #11

Incorrect. This has been a topic of debate for sometime now, I have rulings from multiple sources, and judges that say it does certainly see the triggered ability of a creature entering the battlefield, as the creature must resolve before the ability takes effect.

So, for example.

Panharmonicon in play. Reflector Mage is cast. Mage resolves and enters the battlefield. Panharmonicon sees the Mage as an active permanent on the battle field with an ability triggering, doubles it, and we bounce 2 creatures to opponent's hand.

Counter 2 spells at instant speed, and get a 2/3 flyer for = Value. Bounce 2 creatures and get a 2/3 for = Worth. Value and Worth, the deck is full of it :)

That said, this deck also very rarely wants to hard cast Panharmonicon You want to hit it for free, typically off a Saheeli Rai Ult as the first find. Reflector Mage and Spell Queller are more for protecting the PW's and allowing them to get to their Ults. But its cool when this stuff happens lol

Ahh ok, so; creature/artifact resolves, ability is triggered and put on the stack, Panharmonicon sees that the ability has been triggered and copies the triggered ability?

In my case, the misconception was that I had never really thought about the actual sequence of an ETB ability and it is blindingly clear now that the creature/artifact must resolve before it can trigger, and as it has resolved you do own the permanent. Looking at the wording, I think it was the use of the word 'causes' and the implications which are associated with this (as shown previously in the case of Thalia's Lieutenant).

Yup, R&D was straight up, "Trigger, Trigger, Trigger, period," print that card.

The wording is terrible on it lol

This deck doesn't really do anything...that or it just loses terribly against control decks like Esper. I was play testing against this deck and it just never did 1 thing consistently. It was more like it was trying to do 2 or 3 different things.

I personally think Authority of the Consulate and Panharmonicon need to be removed. As well as Radiant flames. If you are looking for a little control you want more instant removal than radiant flames. I would even remove 1 of the declaration in stone. Also Noxious Gearhulk should probably not be in the deck. I get the concept of fetching for it but ultimately without any counter spells you will likely have an extremely slim chance to ult Saheeli because of cards like ruinous path or any number of burn spells. Perhaps replacing authority of the consulate with some counter magic as in the end the kin of do the same thing (take less damage because you just counter the threat rather than gaining life).

I think this deck is on the right track of something with its concept but I also think it can be refined. I will actually explore with this deck and make the edits and so you can see what I am talking about. :)

I am happy with the list as it stands, thanks for the comments though. I will playtest this version the first few weeks, see how my meta shapes, and adjust accordingly.

I've been playtesting this deck a bit online, and so far I really like it, it's a lot of fun.I just have one question that I was hoping you could help me understand.

What does Perpetual Timepiece do for the deck?

comicbookguy5 says... #22

I don't know what it is about this deck but I'm mesmerized! Have you play tested the deck and how has it performed?

September 23, 2016 3:46 p.m.

xGhostx says... #23

Pennsylvaniann Perpetual Timepiece allows us to "Reset" if we combo off, and dont win. You never want to use the timepiece for its mill ability, just to reshuffle key cards back in if needed.

comicbookguy5 Thanks! Yeah I have been messing around with it. No real heard playtesting, just like practice hands, run the clock on how many turns to get the PW's to Ult, stuff like that. I want to be surprised by my meta :)

I like the idea of this deck especially because i love the gearhulks in this set, have you thought about adding in Madcap Experiment or Refurbish to your main deck? i feel like this way we dont have to completely rely on PW ults, this would also make Torrential Gearhulk more viable in this deck :3

September 25, 2016 3:46 p.m.

You seem to be missing Snapcaster Gearhulk... but seriously I would run a 1-2 of Torrential Gearhulk and pair it with something like Unlicensed Disintegration or Murder, both being extremely strong cards on their own too.
