I would look into throwing in Bow of Nylea. It adds another layer of flexibility to the deck. Allows you to place more 1/1 counters on your creatures, attack with deathtouch, gain life, or deal damage to flyers. Phyrexian Hydra seems a little out of place in this deck, seeing as it doesn't do damage, but poison counters instead. Could use the space for some other fun hydras. Some fun hydras I like are Hydra Broodmaster and Polukranos, World Eater. I would also suggest adding some more mana dorks to your list if you are running a hydra deck. Hydras need a lot of mana. Maybe look into throwing in another Birds of Paradise and maybe some Elvish Mystics. One I am particularly found of if you want to throw some money into your deck is Sylvan Caryatid; hexproof 0/3 tap for any color is wonderful in a green deck.

I'd say replace the doom blades for Hero's Downfall and you should be gold for the most part.

Ooh thanks for that.

are you wanting to keep this more of a budget deck?

Pixelbeard says... #8

Yes, I'm trying to at least.

Ok. I was going to recommend you add two more Primordial Hydra and add Kalonian Hydra. I think Primordial Hydra is one of the best hydras and Kalonian Hydra can make you creatures stupid big right away, especially with Corpsejack Menace

Wow, I've been misreading Kalonian Hydra I thought it doubled its own tokens not on all creatures! I should try to fit at least 1 in.

I would try to add a couple if anything. It's better to have 2 or more of a creature in a deck so the deck becomes more consistent. Also I preferPrimal Rage over Tuskguard Captain

Interesting, I have to say I like Tuskguard Captain because it has outlast (which is amazing with a Corpsejack Menace and provides fairly cheap blocking for early game

So, I chose to swap out Hero's Downfall for Putrefy because I feel like it's more useful in this setup and it costs a lot less and this is a budget deck. I've also dropped down to 1 Kalonian Hydra for the sake of saving some cash as well. I'm very pleased with what I've come up with now.

Putrefy is good, but if this deck runs into a Planeswalker you will run into some trouble since these guys are really played lately. Almost every deck has one. But Putrefy is not a bad card at all.

Can't planeswalkers just be targeted rather than the opposing player?

Also Vastwood Hydra Would be a great adition to this deck as well, and give it some flexibility.

Vastwood Hydra would be a nice choice, I'll consider replacing the Hooded Hydra

I would probably say more lands, because 19 for a green ramp deck (with hydras) is definitely not enough.

I may only have 20 lands but between Birds of Paradise, Utopia Sprawl, Sylvan Caryatid, and Karametra's Acolyte I think I'm fine. I do need to build a good sideboard though, I have no magic defense.

I would suggest scrapping the 2x Karametra's Acolyte for another Sylvan Caryatid if you can afford it. It would bring you down to 60 cards, lower mana cost, and help with mana flexing since you're running a tricolor deck. I also might consider adding more land to the deck. Mana pumps help, but lowering down to 20 cards for land really puts you in a tough position if you don't get a good amount of land in your starting hand or have bad draws. To make room for the land, maybe consider cutting the Mer-Ek Nightblade or Bow of Nylea since they both fill that deathtouch niche. You need dem manas for dem hydras!

2x Utopia Sprawl could be a good contestant to exchanged for land too.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of the bow making Nightblade superfluous but I think you're right, and thinking about it, Karametra's Acolyte is much better in a deck where creatures cost a lot of green mana but with hydra's she's limited to 1-2 manna each.
