ANEURYSM Are you using Perplex and Drift of Phantasms to tutor what you need? Between 10 defenders, 3 Freed from the Real and 6 different tutors...you really shouldn't have ti much difficulty getting the combo off at all.

I never drew Perplex or Drift of Phantasms lol I think it was just 6 bad games for me. It happens :P

Yeah the randomizer had had issues sometimes. Especially since they have messed with the layout of the site.

The thing I like about this deck is that while Freed from the Real makes it faster, it has enough mana ramp to win even if you don't get it.

This is probably the only deck on this site that has really wowed me because this is without a doubt one of the best rogue modern decks I've ever seen.

RedZebra 4x Birds of Paradise may be a bit much, but I have increased to 3x. Thanks for the suggestion.

By far the coolest deck I've seen on here in a long while, +1

Thanks enjoynick ! And thanks to everyone who has made this deck one of the most popular Modern decks on TO!

You need artifact removal that's faster than Pulse.

Do you mind if I borrow this deck, make some slight metagame changes, and play it at a local modern tourney?

I think you could play a single Asceticism ... it + Avacyn = GG

iamacasual You are more than welcome to. I wouldn't have publicized it if I wanted to keep it a trade secret. So long as if you're asked if you would be so good as to cite this as the source I'm good with it! :)

Good luck!

lil_cheez I have thought about things like that, but I want to keep everything but the Titans and Emrakrul/Avacyn at 3CMC or below. Under certain circumstances I would want more protection for the combo, (such as a matchup against heavy control) so I would likely run Avacyn rather than Emrakrul and would likely side in Mana Leak over Boros Charm . The objective is to have enough protection so as to make sure the opponent can't disrupt my combo, but I don't need to establish complete domination of the battlefield forever, I just need to do it for the turn Axebane Guardian is combined with Freed from the Real , and that can be done with Simic Charm . Boros Charm or Dauntless Escort and/or Gift of Immortality

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Brilliant Idea! One of the best decks I've seen in quite some time. +1 of course.

I can't stop gasping on just how brilliant this deck has been put together. I can't believe this is actually possible hahaha, +1

I have no idea if this has been mentioned or not, but we had a deck with a similar idea (infinite mana via Freed from the Real using Staff of Domination ) and we included Bloom Tender ...

I don't know if you already tried this, if there is any room, etc., but Bloom Tender with a Freed from the Real attached will create infinite green mana as well. If you have other color permanents out (white, red, black); you will also create infinite amounts of those too:)

Also, it can be tutored for with a few cards (Muddle the Mixture , Elvish Harbinger , and several others) and at 2-drop it works to create a good amount of mana early even if it's not going infinite...

Just a thought though. The deck is great as it is! Our deck was not this fun :) We'd +1 it again if we could!

Nice walls. Figured Axebane and a few others could make something worthy of Modern.

A few cards I disagree with: Nighthawk and the charms. Wouldn't you rather be proactive with hand disruption than respond with a charm when someone is trying to path your axebane in response to you casting freed from the real? You're running black afterall. Also gives you a way to really interact with other combo decks.

One banefire doesn't sound like enough.

CurdBrosBrewingCo Axebane gives infinite mana in all colors, there's no need to use Bloom Tender .

Tata I agree with disagreeing with Nighthawk and the charms. In my version of this deck I took those out and added in more wincons. 1 Banefire is plenty since that's just one of the ways to win.

Why not Genesis Wave ?

January 19, 2014 12:05 p.m.

I apologize I wasn't clear (I am often guilty of this)... I didn't mean to suggest removing Axbane for Bloom Tender .... I just meant that they were another way to get to your combo. We have a lot of Meddling Mage players in our group so we always try to build a few lines to combo off with in "combo decks" so they are not dependent on one card only. It makes for more consistent combo kills as well. Just a suggestion for those scenarios.

iamacasual says... #23

The problem with Bloom Tender in this deck is all permanents will either be blue or green. That means Banefire is killed already. That also means you can't play Congregation at Dawn if the only other defender you have out is Overgrown Battlement .

I realize this is worst case scenario, but when I look at building decks, I build them to work effectively in worst case scenarios.

UrbanAnathema, you said to let you know how the combo gets on in a Sliver Deck. You can see the finished article here: it's my PJM - Sliver Dollar deck.Today, in a 9 way, it came OH so close to unleashing a perfect 1 turn game ending combo. My creatures got targetted with a Sleep so I eventually went down to 5 but had cast Congregation at Dawn and drew Sliver Overlord as I had Freed from the Real in hand.I had Wall of Vines , Axebane Guardian and 6 forests. The best bit is, though, is someone else had a Pulmonic Sliver which would have put every sliver I sacrificed using Necrotic Sliver 's ability back in the library which could be fetched again with the Overlord meaning I could have destroyed every permanent on the battlefield! But I got extorted with a Crypt Ghast . Love some pointers with my slivers though, as it works beautifully.

Tata You could totally run Thoughtseize instead of the charms. I appreciate the versatility of the charms for dealing with multiple situations as they arise and can be used offensively. Also, if I decide to use Perplex as a counter instead of a tutor I take their whole hand out anyway. The Nighthawks are there to prevent attacks by fatties, restore life I'm losing from City of Brass and provide a versatile attacker to supplement the walls. Again this is the preference of versatility.
