Bought the pre-constructed Elf EDH deck and am going to be iteratively upgrading it, while keeping it pretty casual for friend-friendliness. So far, the only changes I've made were with cards I had sitting around my house. I'll likely be buying cards for the deck soon, assuming I enjoy playing it. The first acquisitions will likely be (in rough order): Green Sun's Zenith, Coat of Arms, Heritage Druid.

I may switch to using Ezuri, Renegade Leader as my commander. We'll see which one is the more fun commander.

Arbor Elf is a great mana dork, but also works amazingly with Elvish Guidance .

Umbral Mantle is sweet tech which can sometimes go infinite (equip to an elf like Priest of Titania, tap for 4+ mana, pay 3 of it to untap, repeat) but even when it can't still has lots of synergies in the deck (e.g. when Joraga Treespeaker is fully leveled and Umbral Mantle is in play, elves I control essentially have "1: this creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn").
