In my attempt to create a non-themed deck whose purpose was to get mana out fast, summon big monsters, and blast with direct damage spells, I started looking up X-cost creatures and spells. I discovered that hydras are awesome. And thus, this stupid deck was thought up. No, I don't have all the cards, but I do have some and am looking for the rest. No idea how functional it will be, but it's gotta be better than anything I have previously thought up. I hope.
The idea is to get a forest and a mana dork creature on the field on turn one, a second forest and one to three mana dorks on turn two, use the mana dorks to play a five drop hydra (and possibly another mana dork) on turn three, and then add mana dorks or hydras as my hand dictates from there. I don't need to worry about waiting and surviving to turn five or six to play a ten drop or anything, because they all grow in some way anyway; if for example I play a 3/3 Primordial Hydra on turn three, it becomes a 6/6 on turn four, then a 12/12 and so on. Heck, if I play a 3/3 primordial and then a
Kalonian Hydra
immediate after, I could fairly easily have a 24/24 hydra on the board by turn five. The only hydra that doesn't grow on its own is the one that hurts multiple opponents if the damage goes through, and if I can buff it with a
Vastwood Hydra
while a Kalonian is on the board, that'll make it start growing anyway, so it's not really a bad thing. I just need to watch out for removal cards...
Bonus points if I get an Elvish Archdruid on the board with three other mana dorks (because they're all elves, huzzah) and Umbral Mantle for an infinite mana loop. Especially if I can use that to summon a monstrous
Hydra Broodmaster
with an infinite number of all-powerful tokens, heh! Managed that by turn five a couple of times in playtest, and even on turn four once, which was both extremely lucky and very awesome!
